Cold Weather Gear

What do you ride in when it's cold?

I have a leather jacket and pants with good armor, but they flow air so riding when it is freezing out hurts - even with a warm base layer. I've been looking at oversuits to wear over my leathers (both rainsuits and lined textile suits). But it's hard to find a good fit because of the "hump" on my jacket. And, the oversuits do not seem as protective as my current gear so I don't want to ride with just a textile suit. I'd love to find an oversuit designed to wear over track day quality leathers.

So, what do you wear to keep warm?

Also, any recommendations on warm glove liners?

I always wear a base layer, hot or cold.

I use the EDZ innershell rather than 3 T shirts and a jumper under my leathers.


I've also just got a Alpinestars Over Jacket to go outside the jacket (as it's vented) but I haven't tried it yet. (Xmas pressie)




If it's REALLY cold, then the Gortex stuff comes out. Hein Gericke, not expensive, but do the job.

I find Rukka jackets are brilliant in the summer, (comfortable and 100% waterproof) but when the cold weather comes you have to pile the layers on or change your jacket. I have an old Bering which does the job when the winter comes calling.

roasty, like pop corn fresh out of the microwave, this stuff looks like some cutting

edge products, I may need this later, right now it has been down to 26 f. in the

mornings and I dress as ususal, jeans no thermals, a uni shirt w/ no thermals or t-shirt,

of course I wear me leather jacket w/the liner....

feels like icecream or a ice cappochino, I like the cold cos there are less bugs.

I've used coldkillers type stuff for years, it's the single most valuable piece of kit I ever bought, especialy under vented leathers. There are a few different makes about and one in particular should be avoided, I think it's Frank Thomas, the windstopper material only covers the chest leaving your stomach 'kin freezing. If you buy one, and you should, always check the windstopper material covers the whole front.

If it turns cold and you haven't brought any extra clothes along, put a newspaper inside your jacket.

A collegue claims it helps putting a sweater OUTSIDE the leathers. You should think the wind would blow all the warm (insulating) air out of the sweater but apperantly it works.
