Confused? SD VS Ducati Hyper Motard

Just when I thought I had made up my mind on going for an orange 2008 SD I had this happen...

I spoke to a dealer in Northern California and they gave me an out the door price for $12,200. They would even deliver to me free which is great as I live about 5 hours away. I thought this was a great deal as some dealers wouldn't even do this price on an 07 leftover model.

Now here is where it got confusing. I asked if he rode one and he said yes and loves it, but... Prefers the Ducati Hyper Motard due to its power and resale value. He said in 2 years the SD would be worth about $7200 versus the Motard which would still sell for around $9000.

Now keep in mind he doesn't even sell Ducatis.

Just as a side note I got an out the door price of 12,700 on the Ducati.

I have demoed a Motard 2X and no matter how much time I spent on it I didn't find it comfortable. Also didn't like the traditional heavy clutch. Also can't say the power blew me away. The demo bike had the Termis on it.

Anyway. Anyone who has some saddle time on the SD and Ducati Motard please send me your thoughts! I really want to buy something soon, but just want to make sure I have considered everything!

Hypermotard is nice, but you'd tyre of it within a few thousand kms. It runs out of puff way early and is fook all compared to the SD

The hypermotard uses an old air cooled two valves per cylinder donk. Farm technology mate. Plus Ducati servicing is expensive.

Yeah it might hold its value longer but hey thats not the reason I buy bikes.

Hypermotard looks aggressive - SD looks scary aggressive. Go the SD bro'

A very good friend of mine rides the Hyper Motard.

He is over 6'4" and likes the ergos. I like the fact that the Ducati feels like a big dirt bike and I love the seating as well.

The SD has alot more power and me being 6' or so the seating is all day comfortable.

We both love our respective bikes. We also enjoy trading off from time to time.

I wanted a HM when the first concept came out. I waited and checked Ducati's website monthly for 3 years. Finally the thing was a reality, and it would be built. I put a deposit down on a HMS and patiently waited. The demo came to town, and I was the first one there that Saturday morning. The bike was stunning with the Termis, and I was in love. Then I rode it. It wobbled in the wind like nothing I ever rode. The power was well, it sucked. I was still gonna buy one because I had so much drool time invested, I was still hooked. Then the waiting game began, June turned to July, and July was coming to an end. I was thinking about my 02 zx6r that I ebayed for downpayment money and how my track season was going down the toilet for the year. I decided to make a move. I bought an SD and I must say I am so happy the Ducati never came in time. It's everything the Ducati is, and isn't.

i've owned both and would go for the sd, when it came to sell the hyper i almost had to give it away but they do seem more popular in the usa.
if you test ride the hyper you can get sucked in because it is fun but i soon got bored with it.

he LOVES Ducatis...... he recently swapped his Hypermotard for an SDR.

I have a multistrada with the same motor as the hyper in it and it is a slot stronger engine low down and midrange. My multi will wheelie with as little as 3k revs in 2nd and 3rd gear, I'm not talking little wheelies but proper high ones. The SD hasn't this amount of low down punch but obviously has a bit more up top. A friend raced a SD and won many times but now has a hyper track bike and prefers it to the SD on track !

Both are great bikes so ride both back to back if poss. The lack of power on paper with the hyper doesn't really translate when you ride them
