Contour GPS Camera

Yesterday, I finally had an opportunity to test my Contour GPS camera at the track. I mounted it to the steering stem of my GSXR. The image quality was pretty good, but the GPS function doesn't seem to work that well. I viewed the footage I took using Contour's own viewer. Contour's viewer has a function that identified my location, and plotted my position on the track, but it wasn't very accurate. Sometimes it plotted me driving around on the infield.

The speed function was not very impressive either. Specifically, while shifting at the redline in 1st, about 80mph on the GSXR, the GPS showed a speed of around 55 mph. At the end of the straight, with my speedo indicating 120+, the GPS was only registering around 80 mph. Also, the GPS speeds would continue to increase even though I was on the brakes hard and slowing for the next turn. The GPS lag on the short track was disappointing. In all, the refresh times for the GPS just seemed too slow.
Good news if you get pulled by the old bill and they confiscate the camera as evidence. Bit of self incrimination potential there
*not on the track obviously*
I might be in the market for one of these cameras with some extra tax money comming back to me. I was looking at an add this morning about the GPS feature. WTF ? Is there any way to turn off the GPS feature and gain a better picture? I am after a good video. Not after extra features, I think . I like the looks of this profile ( smaller frontal area) compared to the Hero camera. I also read about the lens is better than others, but hard telling, sales people get paid to lie. Soooo, you think this camera is better than the Hero?
I've got one (none gps) and really rate it. Took it on a diving holiday over Christmas and it coped really well. Doesn't look as daft on your lid either.
