my arai maverik t is now pushing 7 years old i,ve only been wearing it for 5 years and it was old stock when i bought it at the nec 5 years ago , i asked my local bike shop today what the lifespan is and he rekons that its 5 years ,its unmarked and i still love the colours and the best thing is its black and orange and goes well with my sd, i was at the nec on friday and looked at just about every helmet stand there and i just don,t see anything i like, i,ve got a simpson rx8 speedway as well but tbh its not the best helmet ,it looks awesome but i can,t see that much out of the extremely cool but small visor, so i,ve come across this on ebay and its an arai but its meant for karting ,the visor looks ok and the build quality will be good so what do you guys think? can i keep wearing my maverik or should i buy a new lid?

A while ago now I bought an old shape arai RX7 in Haga colours for £350 inc black visor and visor bag.

I would search our a similar deal as opposed to buying the one you suggest which is after all not designed for use on a bike!

Grendel thinks your head is not too valuable if you want to stuff it into a helmet not designed for the purpose.

There are areas to pick for non-conformity - safety is not one of them.
i,ve been wearing arai for years so i know all about getting the fit right guys and i don,t want a rep helmet something plain but good looking is what i want, i hope i can find this in the arai range as i don,t really want to wear anything else,if a helmet is made of the same materials and tested the same way then surely its other features such as venting and visor apeture that makes them different to each other, its becoming a pain in the ass trying to get something,i,ve even thought of an arai tour x but not too sure about that style
I have had Arais for years and they have saved me a cuppel of times , but they are not the be all end all , I whont be buying anuther one now I have discuverd X-Lite , try one on a 701 ,iff you dont like this over the Arai ,I will be amazed ,

Venterlacion is beter ,lining is lovley and all washerbule , free fog city pin lock , vizer on and off a doddel with no snaped side pods to take on and off swoping vizers , litre , I never thort I wood moove away from Arai , I feel this is a beter helmet all rownd compaird to my Astro R.

I would buy a purpose built helmet - it's not worth the compromise fashion.

I went from an old Arai RX to and OGK and love the new lid. I would highly recommend it.

I get one helmet paid for by my company every five years, they mandate that we need new ones every 5 years, corporate lawyers seem to agree (Should be every 2 or 3). Believe me they dont want to pay for things they dont need too.. Its your melon not mine

spoke to my arai dealer and he says that the kart helmet is every bit ass good in the safety ratings as a motorbike helmet, it just doswn,t have a kitemark on it so technically its rated the same as a simpson helmet and they are worn by drag racers who reach speeds of nearly 300mph!!!!!!!!!!!

Jnr, looks like you've done your homework. I'm the same, i don't like the design of most modern helmets but they obviously do the job. The Karting helmet may be ok but if it was that good they would be selling it as a duel purpose model, personally wouldn't touch it with a barge pole without the kite mark I'm looking to change next year so keep me up to date with how ur gettin on, good luck anyway with wat you choose
What's the R2R KTM helmet like?
its not marketed as dual purpose cos the visor apeture is too small for bike use ,so someone somewhere says anyway, arai have confirmed today that the shell construction is the same as the bike helmets so its strong enough, i,ve got a simpson rx8 speedway so the sk5 will be like a giant window to me

I love my AGV GP-Tech. I've had it a year now and the finish and fit is still second to none.. It's expensive but worth it IMHO...

well went and tried on the arai sk5 kart helmet, must say it was very comfy and a good fit,but something was nagging me at the back of my mind that it was a kart helmet, sooooo i bought an gp7 arai instead, its a limited edition freddie spencer rep,the guy who owns the shop got freddie to sign it at a show he was at,now i only bought it cos i liked the colours so i,ve put the side pods on ebay and i,ll just replace them with white ones,i know i said i didnt want one of these but i got an awesome deal and even got an arai rucksack thrown in,anyway heres the pics

Great looking helmet
hope it's better than my RX7xx corsair
after thinking they were the pinnacle of helmets for years I finaly bought one and I think they are massively overated
noisy, skimps on comfort and quality fabric and padding compared to my old helmet (x-lite 902) and the infamous visor 'system' is a joke with the 'stuff each end into the side pod and hope it locates' aproach. Agv have the best removal system I think. All in all was very dissappointed apart from it looking like streethawk. I've gone back to my old 902 again but will have to buy another soon as it's getting too old despite feeling as soft and luxurious inside as the day I bought it and having had no problems with the fantastically overengineered visor system, or the deep glossy paint. It's also brilliantly quiet and has a gorgeous lumpy egg shaped form. Just gutted the replacment xlite don't look as cool.
