crashed my SD today

I don't know if this is in the right place to post this. So today I was riding my bike to go to my girlfriend house, the rode has very bad curves all around, so I'm riding she's behind me about 1/4 of a mile back. While I go around the corner this new dodge truck is in my lane, didn't even see him at all, so he ran me off the rode into dirt, he did the same thing around the corner for my girlfriend too. So i crash pretty hard, hit my head so hard i don't remember a thing broke my collar bone.

So went to the hospital in there for 8 hours because I was so banged up, never found the guy at all, insurance will not cover the damage because they could just kick me off there plane. So I'm pretty much what I'm trying to say is be safe out there WATCH OUT FOR fooking DUMB PEOPLE.

and yes I was wearing the right gear i will post pictures when i can and of the bike to see the damage, also it would really helped me if anyone has parts they do not or want to sell them.

Hope you are feeling better soon and the damage to the bike isn't too bad. Post up where you live so people know for parts. I'll take it from the Dodge truck reference that you are the other side of the pond to me.

Sorry to hear about your crash Brother. It sucks when things like this happen. I hope you heal up soon. I have the stock foot controls if you need them. and I'm sure some others here have a few spare parts laying around, and can help out. Why won't your insurance cover the damage? BTW the blue part in the second photo is a temperature sending unit. get well soon, ,,,, Tim

Hey Travis, Thing that I would be concerned with at this time is #1: frame and headstock, if either are damaged even a tiny bit my guess is the bike could total, pay close attention: for the 1k, a complete frame and headstock inspection, frame peg mounts, and be sure to check the fork stops too, might as well check both wheels, swingarm, shock mounting points and subframe alignment, metinks a new one is always better than a ditched one. Cos your in cali, forget that shotgun deal. to do this sort of thing the bike must be completely disassembled.. hard ball time

Sorry to hear about your off....glad your on the mends and thinking about rebuilding it.
Joe is right about the frame and headtube.

Take it to your local KTM shop you trust and have them list everything you need and verify
nothing is bend like the frame. Put out a APB to us and we'll see what we have collectively to help you along.

Don't bother with customizing it yet, get you and the SD back up and running first

the only thing is I don't want to take it to the KTM dealer yet because I'm the only one in town that has a SD, and if they no I crashed I don't want them to say my warrrenty is gone for good.

well have good news the ktm dealer said the bike is good nothing is wrong with. sSo i'm pretty damn happy

Being as smart as she is lovely, she shopped around and found someone with them for a 05/06 bike on stock - and then managed to get a really good discount - as she figured they wouldn't want to keep holding ££££ parts for a old model.

I couldn't get jack shit discounted from her present, but I reckon they're worth it!

No it works the other way m8. Its finding that perfect balance between black and orange. 80/20 I think is it.

Anyway orange patent boots I'm not so sure about.... although it kind of depends on the legs in them and what's at the top of the legs

Hey Cripplecreak, just picked up your thread. Sorry to hear about your bike...but you know the main thing is that you are OK, (collar bone excepted).

There's some good advice on here. Having crashed many, many bikes or my part I'd agree with Joe about the frame and headstock. When the bike is ridable take it out and see how it steers in a straight line....if it doesn't pull to either side and the top clamp is 90 degrees straight it will give you a lot of piece of mind and confirm what the KTM shop says about it being OK. If not then all is not lost.....put the bike in a stand and slacken off all the clamp bolts to let the forks realign because sometimes they just twist a bit in a crash. You also will probably find that the two bolts that attach the handlebar clamps to the top yoke are bent so don't worry when you fit your new bars and they don't look straight on the clamp. Just get two new bolts and maybe also the rubbers. I have had to do this every track crash I have had.

When you fit your replacement footrest you also may notice, (when you look from above the seat down), that the mounting lugs on the frame have bent a bit. It depends on whether the bike slid a long way or not in the crash. If it's only a few degrees I'd leave it but if it's more then it is possible to use some long bar, (insert this somehow into your broken footrest before you take them off) and very gently bend them back. I really didn't want to try this the first time in case I snapped the lugs off the frame but I can confirm that this will not happen if you are careful.

Like people say KTMs a really great crashers... they are engineered like tanks. If you'd had a Ducati you'd be looking at a LOT more damage believe me. It's one of the best things about this brand- and the parts are cheap compared.

I know that feeling of having a new bike that has never had any damage done to it. Especially if it's your first bike. The first crash damage hits you really, really hard. Especially if you are lying in hospital in pain, thinking about arsehole insurance companies and forever replaying the image of a fooking truck coming round your corner of the road. But however bad it seems once you get sorting out the bits and working on repairing things it never, never is as bad as you first think. I've sat with my head in my hands looking at bits of bent, twisted metal and shattered carbon fibre and gravel rammed into CNCd parts that I paid a fortune for and wanted to cry. But a week later it's all back together again patched up or shiny new and working fine.

What I've learned is this. Bikes are tools for doing a job and the Superduke does it's job brilliantly. Tools that get used get worn and scuffed and show that they have lived a life. When did you ever see a knee slider that was all shiny new that looked cool? It's only when they are ground down that they have any cudos. Or like tyres that are not scrubbed in. Or like a boxer without a broken nose. You get my point? A motorcycle that is showroom finish is a bike with no soul. When you get fixed up your bike will have more character and wear it's scars well. That's the way too see it and it will make it easier for you to enjoy the mending process.

My '07 bike has a lot of nice parts on it, carbon bodywork, £300 control levers, titanium Akros etc. but every bit is scarred and pockmarked from numerous high speed crashes into track side gravel. It looks good from about 10 feet and then you get close and see that it's been through the wars a bit. But I'm free from the neurotic worries about little scratches and everyday stuff that happens to a bike when you use it. I will post some pictures so you can see what I mean and be inspired.
