Crashed the SD today

I lost the front coming around a right hand corner on my way to my usual ride with a friend and slid across both lanes into the shoulder where we came to rest in the weeds. Good thing it's not a well traveled road. Not sure exactly how it happened but it was only 38 deg this morning and the road might have just been a little frozen. I didn't see any ice but it's been moist and cold so who knows. I dislocated my left index finger and dislocated and broke my thumb. the doc couldn't get my thumb set all the way so I have to go to a specialist this week. The bike might have a bent sub-frame and the front end off is out of whack. Handlebars and wheel don't line up. The best part is the guy who was working on a fence saw me crash and when I showed him my hand and asked for a ride to the hospital he said he was to busy. He didn't do much to instill my confidence in the Hispanic population where I live. His attitude is pretty much how the majority of the hispanics are around here and the reason most non-hispanics want them all sent home. I'm just glad a nice lady came by just then and was willing to turn around and take me to the emergency room. All my gear did its job and held up well.

Wow, glad to see that you're alright! Looks like your hand was in a bunch of pain though, hopefully it'll heal up soon! Looking at the pictures of the bike it made me start to tear, but luckily for the last picture, I was able to keep it together I hope you have a speedy recovery and get the bike back to working shape, or get another one and keep that one for parts..... Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Moisture is a pain right at the temp you mentioned because its right at the threshold for ice, so you never know if it'll be wet or icy. I've hit ice in those conditions and got lucky. Based on your last pic it looks like you've still got a nice looking caretaker for your down time. Glad to hear you are ok overall.

Man, that sucks. I woke up late and feeling like I'm coming down with the flu, so I wasn't able to make it.

FWIW, my front was dancing around all over the place on Friday at the track for the first few sessions. It rained the night before and was in the low 40s. I couldn't see anything on the track, but it was slippery as hell. You probably got bit by the same type condition.

thanks for all the well wishes. going to see a hand specialist today. hopefully i dont need surgery. the hand did hurt like all hell. they gave me some good narcs when i got in the er then numbed up my finger and thumb really good so they could pop them back in place. i didn't feel a thing even though the doc was yanking and pulling like crazy on my thumb.
the bike didn't flip at all just slid. it would've been interesting to see how she would've faired with crash protection. will call my insurance today or tomorrow and get the process started on getting her fixed up.
and when i'm healed i just might go out there and do some cutting up of a fence. give that guy something to do.

Ouch!, that sucks, but glad to see that you are mostly OK and with your sense of humour fully intact. Best for a speedy recovery and quick fix of your SD.

going in for surgery later today. they have to fix the tendon on my finger and set the brake in my thumb. it is way out of whack.
the car is my roommates 57 buick. he just had paint and interior done last yr. fun car to cruze in.

talked to the dealer today. the SD is totaled. I'm going to see if I can get the brand new rear tyre i had on there and exhaust from them. I still have the stock exhaust and they should have plenty of old tyres laying around. time to start my search for another SD. there seem to be a few new 08's at a dealer in San Fran so that might be a good place to start.

I bought my bike there and got a ripping deal. Make sure you deal with Andre.

Put the bike up on workstands and loosen the upper and lower triple clamps. I'll bet the forks pop right back into alignment. If not, open your garage mini fridge and contemplate which aftermarket frontend you're gonna put on her.

i don't think the problem was the forks. they said the tank needed replaced along with a lot of other stuff. i'm goin to try and get down there tomorrow. i want my fmf's and the brand new rear tyre i had on there. i was told the piping on the fmf's was bent but it would still be cheaper to have new piping done than to buy a whole new system and i didn't see any scratches on the cans while i had it here in the garage.
if all else fails i ride my friends RC51 until i find a new SD.

I talked to the mechanic today he said he was going to loosen the front end and see if it lines up. If it does hopefully that will take it off the totaled list and insurance will fix it.
