I dont know about USA but in Europe the onus is now on the manufacturer (KTM) to prove that the work done was not of equal standard to that of a KTM dealer. If they cannot do so they must still honour the warranty.
For years I have taken bikes and cars back to the main agent and paid over the odds. Usually £40- £60 per hour labour. Everytime I spoke to the mechanic doing the work he gets less than £10 of that.
I still do it with Honda as I know I will get a better trade in price on a bike they have looked after. In my experience UK KTM dealers want their cake and eat it. They shaft you on servicing then screw you on p/ex. Just my opinion. But the two independants I use were both employed to prepare bikes for Superduke Battle in UK so I think KTM would struggle to say their work in substandard.

Yes we do have similar laws in place here too, the law of averages are with us on this cos we know for the most part what can happen to the bike to start with,
and truth be it,, what you say is true about the price gouging into the ole wallet, this is why I am relieved that they only give us 12 months warranty
here in the USA,(07 models) land of the patsies, (push-overs), never the less, I do also seek outside help with my bikes, even though i am a auto tech.
I prefer to hire someone to do the work for me most of the time on the big stuff. I save about 40-50% by doing so.

#7I agree with Joe's first post, even if the onus is on the dealer I don't want to take the chance of it possibly backfiring. Put a lot of my money into this thing and to me gambling is done with chips and not the warranty...
Also, we've heard how some dealers take their time about straightforward warranty work. Add to that how long they are going to fight and investigate the other workmanship before they even start!
No thanks, I'll pay up now for (relative) piece of mind. And in SA the 'book stamp' actually still means something, 'specially for niche bike manufacturers.

#10Important to remember... is the money you save now worth the potential lost at resale? Not sure how it works there on the "other" side.... but seems a stamp for regular service from any dealer is no biggie.

#13Just the little things like error code checks, having the right gaskets, filters etc and the fact they should know about any 'features' of the SD compared to my mate who whilst is an excellent spanner guy, doesn't do KTM's usually.
