Ok i got a dilemma i can sell my sorted low milage 1573 sd x race bike 08 plate that i have got a fortune in to buy
MTWs sdr i love the sdr i never go two up and mtws sdr is on a 10 plate
any one had a sd then gone to the sdr ? if so whats the difference if any
The engine on my sd has been tuned by Bob Farnham it has been blue printed and gas flowed and balanced
( i took a standard sd out before i bought this one and then got on the x race bike & what a difference )

PS MAX im 99.9% talking my self in to it

If your bike already has the power of the SDR anyway then I'd be more inclined just to do an R tail conversion, you can always uprate your suspension and even powdercoat your frame orange probably for less than the difference between your bike and the SDR.
IIRC Bob Farnham tuned bikes put out 130 RWBHP which if I'm not mistaken is more than a SDR.
As an ex race bike your will have had the suspension sorted too ??

Also I "think" the later SDR's have the softer frame geometry so may not handle as well as what you have.

Stick with what you've got and do the R seat conversion
well i did it sold my Bob Farnham tuned bike 08 sd to my mate and bought the 10 plate sdr with 900 miles on the clock and the akos with ktm ako map what can i say

I should have followed my head and your advice but no i followed my dick and the looks of the sdr
dont get me wrong i like it the looks are to die for but looks are not every thing
its got a upgraded seat on it & thats still like sitting on a plank the power is no way as smooth and as good as my old sd the old one just pulled & pulled this one pulls but nothing like the old sd , Me and my mate who has my old sd have just been over glossop and snake pass keeping in mind it was our 1st rides on the new bikes i could not keep up with the old sd and like said above the new sdr does not turn as quick as the old one,
cold it be that i have got 15 years on my mate and hes just a nutter & im getting old
Thing i will be buying a power comandar to go with my new moto box that i need to fit then i need to find a dyno place in my area,
i do think the more i ride it the more i will like it its just my 1st ride impression was a bit of a let down

Hope it does grow on you and that you don't regret the change too much.

Just to rub it in, I would have kept the old one and just done a tail conversion......
Thread hijack here - Preey - I saw you this morning. You and your mate came past on the road from Holmfirth as we approached the Woodhead Road. I was pottering along with a TDM and a couple of others doing an observed ride for my IAM course. I so wanted to chase after you but thought I should show moderation. I then got chastised for not making progress. My observer's comments on your overtake (I was expecting a rant)...nothing wrong with it - fast and purposeful and fairly safe in the conditions. So I asked what he thought about the wheelie as you pulled away onto the main road... good wheelie he said, why didn't you do one?
^^^^
Lol. An observer who knows how it is in the real world!
Hey Preey,

you say your old bike was an '08 but everything about it look like an '06. The tank and headlight and front brakes. How come you thought it was an '08 bike?

But I would have stayed with the Bob Farnham tuned engine - think it is the way I'm heading - he was legendary even when I was young so it's on my list for things to do in the future.

Unless track days are your thing, I would gladly stick to the ROAD SD
Bob Farnham is at Wrotham Kent. He did the mapping and dyno for my fireblade but I have never taken the SD there. I know he did some bikes for the SD Battles in 2006 and 2007 and remember him saying he was getting 130bhp from them. HM Racing told me the same. He also prep'd all the 675 Triumphs for that Race series too.

I dont know what he would charge for head work on an SDR but I am quite tempted to nip in and see him and find out. Watch this space. I doubt he could do much with an 08 or later SDR though as KTM have already done it to get the extra horses.
If you have a strong SD I can't see the point of an upgrade other than for the looks. Mine pulls like a train with just under 40k on the clock and after I rode Ronin's 08 SDR which has full Ti Akra, MB and tune I wasn't at all blown away by any extra grunt

Hmmn. I find myself in a very similar predicament. Having got the new bike bug, I decided to buy a streetfighter, but in the end the price put me off, just couldn't do it. So now I'm thinking an SDR... but am I wasting my money? I very rarely do track days, so is an SDR a less practical, more uncomfortable self indulgence?
Do I, don't I? indeed....
I did ok my upgrade from my old sd cost me £1250 & most of that was to pay for the akos so I'm happy with the deal cash wise just need to sort gearing out & get my Moto box & power comandor on it then dyno
I would have been mad not to do the deal & the price I paid for the sdr
how come you got it so cheap dude?

not tellin then

fair enough!
The white SDRs are beautiful but that other thing sounds like a weapon. I know what I'd do...
