Apologies if this has already been covered, copied from KTM forum

BEWARE...Posting Smartphone Photos of Bikes
A very kind subscriber to this forum telephoned me and warned me about the danger of posting photos of your bike (whether selling or not) online that have been taken with a smartphone....At the time my bikes photos were on the classified pages as I am selling my KTM SMT.

Basically, if you use a smartphone, the picture will have GPS location data embedded, the time you took the photo and the type of smartphone used!!! All a Pikey thief needs to do is open a website (removed as pikey scumbags might read this)

Right click the bike's photo, copy the URL onto the webpage and Bish Bash Bosh - he has the Lat/Long GPS data for your house. It even loads a google satellite image.

The bloke who gave me the steer had two bikes stolen and could not work out how they got his address. He eventually found out this information and realised he had taken the photo outside his garage with a smartphone.

So beware everyone. The scumbags are smarter that they used to be.

Excellent point Jody, most of us are unaware that our beloved very smart phones are a thieves dream come true. Facebook does remove geotags from uploaded photos, however many others may not.

How to disable Apple iPhone Photo GPS geotag data
- Tap on Settings
- Tap on General
- Tap on “Location Services”
- Select the On/Off switch next to “Camera” so that the switch is set to OFF
- Exit settings

Disable geotagging for photos on your Android phone
- Start the Camera app (this is the menu on the left side of the camera application; it slides out from left to right)
- Select “Store Location” and make sure it is set to “Off”

Here's another tip - Never save user names and passwords in your address book. Many people do and apps do not currently need permission to read your address book, this has caught a few people out.

Thanks for the tip. I never knew about this. I wonder whose bright ideal it was to imbed GPS information in a photo and what the purpose it was supposed to serve.
