#9This is great news for me.
I'm in the market for a new bike this spring as it is. Previously my short list was a new Speed Triple, Super Duke(R if I found a deal) and Triumph Sprint.
Mostly determined by the ttpe of deal I could work.
This is certainly adds a bike to my list. I never really liked the Monster, a naked 1098 is entirely another matter. I've gotten to flog a 1098S up in the mountains and though it was a BRILLIANT bike...until the road straightened out and I took it back down the highway. lets just say OUCH.
However if they leave it just like it is with handlebars and *maybe* slightly lower pegs....holy shit that will will be a brilliant bike.

#10Imo all anyone needs is 70 ft. lbs. of torque for the street. Horsepower numbers imo are immaterial for anything but the racetrack. If hp numbers were important I'd have bought a busa.
At this point I'm very reluctant to think that KTM or Ducati would produce anything that would get me to trade up my SDR. Assuming the tank is the same as the 1098 the range on that Ducati Streetfighter will still only be 100 miles and that's just not acceptable. And the SDR is the handling KING in the tight stuff. I'm quite content right now...no really I am I am...!!

Really, I have higher expectations. That thing looks more like am Italian FZ1 then a street fighter. The Super Dukes and Speed Triples looks way better to me. I have my doubts there. Why would they put the Ohlins suspension on a streetfighter and not the base 1089. Not to mention if it does come like that the price might be...excessive.

WOAH! that is one bad ass street fighter, I was going on my ride out today with a good friend, he just purchased a 3000 mile 08 1098 for $13,000
it makes me sick, the bike IS sick, I want one, but I want this one here even more, my wife is fixing to come home from work, she is going to chew
me out for my activities from last night, now I have this DUC to think about! I want one of those badly, what in the world will I have to sell to get one is the question.

#24If you look at the posts in my SDR Top Speed thread, it's apperant that 156 hp is unusable as the aerodynamic drag of a nekkid bike limits top speed............for most.
Regarding the RC8, it appears the 09's will come with different (hotter) mapping and improved shifting. I think you'll see performance numbers closer to the 1098/1198.
Ducati/MV/Aprilia dealerships are few and far between and they maintain high parts and service margins to support the brands and image. Dollar for dollar I'll ride the KTM wave.
The '08 SDR against the Street Fighter S on the track should be an interesting battle. The KTM with a 40/41T rear sprocket should do just fine.
The Street Fighter is no doubt impressive, probably a better choice for most than the superbike.
