It's finally confirmed at the importers meeting at he factory last week that new Duke single will be coming for 2008.


KTM did a very good job to keep it's final design secret for a long time but this is how it will be. Poor picture quality and the big fat testrider on it doesn't help the look of the bike. But from what I can make out I think it looks great and very special.

Funny that the very first thing that was said about the new Duke some 2 years ago was that it would get an under the engine exhaust. And while not a shred other info leaked about this bike in the meantime, this proofs to be true.

I love the extreme look of the headlight mask. Sort of a mix between the old Duke II (stacked headlights) and the 07 SD but looking MUCH better than both IMO. The new 690 engine has proofed itself as the new benchmark for singles being smooth and very powerful (for a single). I wonder what a full Akra, race map and some other tweaks'n twists will get out of it.

These pics definitely re-ignite my love for the Duke single, the first KTM that I bought 10 years ago. Gosh I did crazy things on that bike. There's nothing like beating up 'big bad sportsbikes' on a single through the turns... I can already hear it thumping through a full Akra system.

This bike could make me sell my SD for sure.

It looks good, better than the old one for sure. Lovin' the hedlight mask, hatein' the exhaust. Seems to use a lot of SD parts, controls, bars, indicators, yokes? not sure. Remind me again, why would I choose this over the 690 SM ? Although it's a toss-up which has the ugliest exhaust.

Nice detective work,KTMax.

I love this bike and can't wait for it's stateside arrival. Anyone notice the swingarms?(pix 3-4) Looks like they are going to a CNC piece like they have on the MX bikes and black as well

I've found another spy-pic. Gosh this bike is being kept a secret...

The exhaust-less tail looks nice. The muffler seems to have two oval exits. Akra probably has their tasty Ti/Carbon interpretation finished already.

The somewhat smaller proportions of this test rider and no tank bag does the bike more justice than the other pics IMO.

no, Im talkin 10 more hp with titanium valves and a little more street

orientated? custom suspension, lighter wheels? It looks a little like my old 06

SM but little sister? and a much cooler exhaust, single seater. really what

I've had a couple of the older SMC's ('01 LC4 640 and an '06 625 SMC.). As long as you buy it for its specific intent, you shan't be disappointed. They are a hoot!

We went to the Paris Motorshow to have a look at the new Duke in the flesh.

Is it beautiful? YES! Am I buying?... No.

This is without question the best looking Duke so far. It's absolutely perfect, from front to rear. Almost too perfect, too polished. It's not a tough bad-ass looking single but almost girly.

Sitting on it gave me a moped-like feeling. An awkward Handlebar. High and very straight. Didn't feel that good to me. I wasn't expecting this as I've been on motards for quite a few years. Sitting on a Superduke next to it felt like a custom tailored suit.

The new black/orange 690 SMR was there too. I'll never get used to that hidious design but I must admit it did fascinate me. Ugly as sin but with all that black and the orange frame it does look tough and mean. It has the balls the Duke is lacking for some reason.

The 690 SMR


I don't think I'll ever get used to the shape of this bike. But this R version does 'get to me' in some freaky way. Standing next to it, the Duke suddenly looked like a hairdressers' bike...

That exhaust system is horrible and weights a ton. But fit the fab looking full Ti Akra system and it gets pretty interesting... A head turner for sure.
