Dymags and suspension setup

I am thinking of getting some carbon dymags for the SD I have read several magazine articles praising the performance upgrades from using carbon wheels but most of them say that you need your suspension reworked to suit the lighter wheels. What are Dymag runners thoughts on this does the bike work alot better after installing these wheels or do you think suspension work is required as well I am more interested in this from a track rather than road point of view.

i posted a question about carbon wheels on ktm forum and the respose i got was unless you get them cheap you have more money than sense

No actually I said it and I have the carbon dymags on my SDR. My suspension was reworked by HM Racing whilst the carbon wheels were fitted. I asked would I need to adjust the suspension when switching back to standard wheels and was told, 'perhaps just a couple of clicks of rebound'. He seemed a bit vague and probably needed the std wheels fitted for an accurate comparison.

In truth I am loath to fiddle about with suspension whilst road riding or in winter as there are too many other variables to consider. However, I do feel there is a need for something that seems to originate from the rear shock

I am hoping to get the bike back to HM for the slipper clutch fitment this week. I will leave the std wheels on and try to get Perry's verdict then.

I had carbon wheels on my RC8 (now sold) and I have carbon wheels on my SDR. You will love them. Worth every penny in my opinion. You don't have to fiddle with suspension because of the lighter wheels. The suspension is not carrying the weight of the wheels anyway. (what is the english word for non suspended weight ??).

The more aggressive riding however (that is the result of the lighter wheels) might call for a click or two to stiffen up things.

Lighter wheels will always need more compression damping, the lighter wheels will deflect more over bumps so an increase in compression is needed to control the lighter wheels and unsprung weight

I only no this cuz a suspension set up guru told me

A lighter wheel will take more of a knock over a rut or bump so will need more compression to slow the movement!

If you kick a light object it moves quickly, if you kick a heavy object will either not move or move very slowly!

The same as if you throw a light object up a ramp it will fly further than a heavy object thrown at the same force!

Common sence in my mind

I must say, of all the bikes I've had, the superduke is the one that least needs them.
