dyno run

Astroboy

Did a dyno run today on a nakedbike-meeting in Belgium.
The results are very good: 105,2Nm and 120,8 Bhp @ the rearwheel and no dip in the run what so ever !

I had a strong SD he said.

The spec's on my bike are: standard engine, 16t and akra-mufflers (no db-killers)

Are there others owners who did a dynorun on there bikes?

Nice strong figures m8.

Here is mine.
2006 SD, Akra no db killer, Motobox.
122.84hp and 75.2ftlb

Post up your charts dude.

Decided to finish off moding my Superduke and get all the bits I wanted .....as I just love riding the SD ...road and Track ........found local Dyno who uses TuneECU (up till now .....mostly on Triumphs) he mapped my Track R1 last year which absolutely flew afterwards .. and was silky smooth on fuelling

My SD had Half Akrapovic, DNA mk3, Flies removed RC8 stacks PC3 custom map......was making 127.85hp and 78.87Ft/lb...(before I added RC8 Stacks)

My SD now has with Full Akrapovic to go with DNA mk3 and Flies Removed, RC8 Stacks, PC3 removed, TuneECU Custom map individual Cylinders

Just with the full akrapovics it was so much better, wheeling everywhere...without trying....so I finally got it mapped

The red line is the the above spec.......it was running WAY to rich.....did the RC8 stacks make that much difference

Blue line with custom map installed .....140.38hp and 89.56Ft/lb

Wow those are some great figures. Group 3 in Almeria come Sept now Nick

Did you try a back to back with standard stacks? I found the RC8 lost a lot of mid range but gained some top HP. Prefer the midrange myself.

Just to get an idea, what does a standard SD puts out at the wheel?

Unfortunately no Dyno here for us.

between 107 and 116 really. SDR 08-11 is quoted as having 130.

The correction factor used by the dyno makes a huge difference. The correction is applied to take into account changes in temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, and altitude.

It's well known that a SAE corrected dyno reads lower than one using a DIN standard. With a superduke you could easily see an additional 10 to 15 ponies just by changing between dyno types.

It's a bit of a muchness as so many other factors can influence the figure. You could ratchet up the holding straps between runs and cause slight differences.

Really, you want a base power run done on that dyno before you make any changes.

Back in the day a friend of mine opened his workshop for a day and large group of friends from one bike dealer tripped up there for a day for a "power shootout" fun thing. I know for a fact he tweeked all the results to avoid dissappointment.

This was the same dyno we tested my friends Original batch TL1000S on. (The dyno WAS NOT tweeked for optomistic results.) I can't remember what the result was but we wanted to get another twin on there straight away because Mr Suzuki had served up a treat. Oddly enough TLs the next year never seemed to be as good.

Pete

Totally agree that SAE weighted dynos give lower readings than Din weighted Dynos

.....…which confuses things still further as New Road (140hp 89 ft/lb) figure was SAE weighted and Creasent (126.52hp) was DIN weighted … .

all academic really...as it goes alot better than it did bfore ....Almeria long straight will tell for sure

Well that's just plain weird.

The difference between SAE and DIN is usually around 2-5 percent from my experience. Shape of the graphs should be the same though.
More important is how much pressure is in and on the rear wheel at the dyno and temperature of the air blown on the front of the bike. These things can make up to 10hp differences.

F.A.O KTM666, Could I be so rude as to ask how much this garage charges for a dyno run and set up with tuneecu?. I live in Exeter and never had one done.
Cheers Gary.

.......still waiting for the bill

he charges out a £40.00 hour so about 3 /4 hours

Went out around North Devon at the weekend.....its fantastic

Hi Guys,

My mechanic did dyno runs and tuning with my 07 SD (Mivv exhaust + DNA airbox) and I got confusing results. It feels like the bike has lost a lot of power when driving in low rpm ranges.
Maby it's cause my mechanic tried to smoothen things up a little, i must say the beast feels tamed and more controllable than before.
The graph itself is pretty strange, no torque below 4K rpm. And the drops??
The Red lines are the results from the run with the default KTM Akra Mapping.

What do you guys think? I'm pretty confused

Image
KTM666

KTM666

...strange

A better map and a better spread of power can feel like less power (seat of the pants dyno ....feels the difference in power ...so a big step...with the wheelie that goes with it feels like moore power ....)

Not like for like runs .......maybe not hitting full throttle straight away on the green run
Jermo

Jermo

The one with the drops is taken through the gears and he pulled full throttle around 4K rpm. Because he used a different gear the dyno measured a bigger acceleration and therefor higher power output. He probably synced the dyno rpm with the one of your bike so the gear matters for the reading.

Is the blue line new as well? If so, that's the reference and 'new line' you should look at. Space between the red and blue one would be the power increase.

Here's mine 05 with round akra, motobox, without flies but still with shaft, without sas and akra smoothed map vs lighlty dyno tuned akra map.

Image

And the final version so far ( work in progress as it's his first LC8 and tune ECU software. )

Image

Hope it helps seeing other map because it's all I can do.

The AFR on yours is not real smooth, something my dyno guy spent a lot of time, no only at WOT but around all throttle position and rpm.
ktmguy

ktmguy

Looks indeed weird. Get the tuneecu setup and try another map.
In my experience the akra map runs overly rich so if your tuner cleaned that up it should be way better now.
It could be just that he run it trough the gears as mentioned above.

If your feel says it doesn't have any grunt below there might be something wrong or tuned wrong.
