Few Questions...

Hey guys, first post! I crashed my 08 Buell XB12SS at the track last Thursday. I'm pretty sure it's going to be totaled; I find out on Monday. So if that's the case, I want a SD for my next bike. As I can tell the Buell and the SD are complete different beasts. I went shopping around yesterday and found an brand new 08 Left Over SD 990, all black. OTD they want $9,770, I think that's a pretty fair deal. I'll try and bust them down a bit, and get the 1st service thrown in there...

So now I've got a few questions for ya about the SD. The first thing that I would do is to get some slip-ons (leaning towards FMF) and to get a rear fender eliminator (is there an integrated taillight available for these bikes. What is the best web site for aftermarket parts for these bikes? I've also been snooping around on here and have read about the "motobox", that would on my list too. As for the mapping with the new mods, the dealership said that all they would have to do is flash the ECU with a map that they have, and I'd be good to go? Is that the case? Would it be a good idea for me to get a PCIII, with the slip-ons and motobox? As for the PC, I have do idea on how it works and what it requires. With my Buell, I just bought the factory race ecm that was calibrated for my pipe; plug and play. I also read about O2 sensor eliminators, I understand what an o2 sensor does a little bit...would I need them?

Basically I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to the bike straight out of the box. I also read something about a 2nd-3rd gear rev limiter, or the bike stock cuts some of the power here..? Whats that all about, and how would I combat that? If there's anything else quirky about these bikes, that I would need to do/adjust, the info would be appreciated.

Also how is the maintenance on these bikes? I plan on doing all the maintenance myself, minus the valve adjustments. So a service manual would be in order.

I know this is a lot, but bare with me, I learn fast. I'm sure there are 1,000 of noob posts like this on here, I'm sorry for that!

Any tips, opinions to help me get the most out of this bike I'd be very appreciative! Thanks! And thanks for having me!

Adam

Here's pics of the Buell, very fun bike, don't knock it. I couldn't figure how to just post a single pic so here's a link to photobucket.

In my experience the ONLY thing you NEED to do to a SD is Change the exhaust (full system or cans depending on budget) and a remap to suit.

After that I'd go for Crash bungs / sliders and levers in that order
Too bad for the Buell, good thing you're ok and back on the saddle with a great bike

Slip Ons - leovince, fmf, akrapovic, yoshimura, diferent styles, sounds and prices. All do the same thing. Remove extra weight and open up the lungs.

You can get the ecu flashed with akrapovic map @ dealer or get pcIII. Second allows better fueling maping with some extra $'s.

If you get the motobox the pcIII will be a good buy, just for the exhaust you can get away with the akro flash.

Out of the box you may need the rearsets to get your feet up, the exhaust to get it ligher and ecu flashed to upgrade the ignition and remove the gears limiters.
1st off welcome to the ONLY forum youl ever need for the SD and (hopefully) welcum to the family

Thats alot of questions so here we go -

Every SD is diffrent in regards to fueling etc, some have real problems with the herky jerky twichty throttle response whilst some bikes run perfect as stock!

On a very basic level for looks/sound/lose of weight alone you will want a set of cans and as your dealer stated you will need a simple re-flash of the ECU with the commonly refered to Akra mapping. If you really want the Motobox on top of that for the extra HP and noise then go ahead, there are some people here that run them with just the Akra mapping (and no PC3) and the bike will run fine but id suggest getting it on a dyno anyway just to check A/F ratios. Obviously for perfect fueling youl want the PC3 and custom map but its not a `must have` item! The 02 Sensors come with the PC3 but can be bought seperatly, i wont claim to no what they do though so i shall lkeave it there!)

Yes an intergrated rear light is available - Ebay is your friend!

The 2/3rd gear mod is a simple, cut 2 wire job that removes the restriction at the top end of the revs to keep noise down - take a look in the `How-To` section for details

Maintainence on these bikes is fairly simple and a full work manuel can be downloaded from this site for free - very useful

Apart from the above it is just a case of what you want from the bike, your already on the right track though as your looking at buying the fastest coloured SD - Black
