Some of you may have read my introduction post about my new sdr. Yesterday was the first time I was able to get to ride it.
I went into work early so I could maximize the day light and dry weather before the rains came again.
When I bought her she had 00000 across the od. I rolled it out of the garage and checked the tyre pressure, lights, radiator fluid and set up the forks, shock to the base line settings.
I proceeded to fire her up and listen to that sweet sound. I warmed it up a little and then checked the oil and surrounded area for any leaks, loose parts or any weird stuff. All ok
I first noted the exhaust smoking a bit but this is a brand new bike burning off the assembly film if you will warming things up for the first time.
Another thing I noted right away was there is virtually no storage space underneath the hardwood.
I set the levers for where I wanted them and noted this is the first bike I have ever owned with a hydraulic clutch. No biggie just a little harder to pull in but not even really noticeable.
I noted first gear seemed a little higher than the Speedy but not bad. The seating position is much more comfortable to me than the Speedy.
I was blown away how smooth the transmission was on this bike compared to the extremely notchy feeling of the Speedy. It did get better over time but nothing compared to this tranny. I would even say it is better than my Honda.
This thing is a torque monster. This is my first twin and I love the sound and feel. Yes, it is a little vibey compared to both, but oh so awesome.
Still in the break in period, I keep it under the limit but if feels strong and the potential of what is to come is exciting.
After taking my time to bed in the brakes somewhat a few things come to mind right away. This bike feels way more confident than my Speedy. It feels lighter and spews the confidence of flickability and turn in without feeling like a slightly top heavy bike with soft suspenders. The suspension feels great and after some more setup this thing will rip. Brakes, wow they are coming in nicely.
Aright ,yes the throttle is a bit twitchy and I can see how it has the potential to upset the bike in a corner a wee bit, but it really doesn't bother me. I come from my share of off road riding and it seems fine to me.
I always got allot of compliments on the Speedy when out for you really don't see too many of them over here. This bike seems similar too. I have only seen one other one in my travels, but I know there are a few out there. I have always wondered how many sdr's have been released in the states?
The seat? Well it seems fine. I have never complained about the stock seat on my cbr on distances over 400 miles but I will say my arse was throwing up some questions to my brain around 45miles like are you sure? I will give it some more seat time if you will.
All in all I am happy with this bike. I have heard some of you say that you will start to think about the next time you can ride and I am so there. this weather is killing me. Raw is a word that I hear often to describe this bike and I would agree. This bike screams "Time to be a man son, you got hair on your peaches or what?"

#18Glad to hear your loving it. Just wait until you up the RPM, they really pickup around 6000.
What you said about the transmission made me realise how good mine is, so good that I have not even noticed it, it just does its job no questions asked.
You will love the thing once your done with the break in and can get up it.

Mine is in the garage - the weather went tits up the day it was delivered!
0 miles, shiny tyres etc.
You think that clutch is heavy? Try an early Laverda Jota cable clutch for size - you'll never complain again
