Fitting different wheels...

Hi guys

I've been thinking and this will only really be of interest to other trackday riders I guess but..

What other wheels will fit the superduke? I'm not really thinking other ktm ie smr etc but something more common?

Reason being is that I'm trying to find a set of spares for wets on trackdays and they are bloody expensive/hard to find.

I'm thinking late model gsxr 750, ducati 749, supersports 600? Something else that runs a 180 rear basically?

I know you'd likely end up with a slightly heavier wheel but it's a wet wheel anyways so little bit of extra weight could probably be dealt with?

What are the spindle sizes for the superduke? This would be a good place to start as it'll need to be a nice easy swap so same spindle size will help no end.

This is a good question but I don't know that there are any real simple alternatives other than the standard Brembo rims. Occasionally a set will come up but very occasionally. I think I got the last set. Just hang in there. Right now there are any number of people looking for a front wheel including myself (as track wheels). For some reason the fronts seem to be at a premium as they seem to develop flat spots

Yeah it was the difficulty in finding them that prompted this line of thinking...

I figured we might have luck with ducati wheels seen as the discs can be used from an st4? At least the discs would be right then just wheel spacers and spindle size (possibly caliper location on forks as well)? If we could work it out might save everyone a lot of time waiting for sd wheels?

I think might be worth looking at fronts that use same discs and bikes with same brembo calipers?

Cannot find anything on the wheels

They are hard to come by, unless you have the Dymag Carbon wheels plus the original set like... err... em.. me!

The 08/9 RC8 shares the same front but the rear is 6 inch wide. The 950 / 990 Supermoto or SMT will fit / are same wheels.

So when checking on e bay always have a look at Brembo, Marchesini, KTM wheels etc not just Superduke wheels.

Brembo wheels were on early Ducati's and some Aprilias but whether they would fit or could be made to fit I wouldnt know.

If all else fails, Ducati Pete has a spare front in an appalling baby sick green colour he may flog if he is a bit short of cash and his porno channel subscriptions are due.

I bookmarked that exact list earlier. Gives something to work from at least.

Just need a wheel with same diameter spindle and discs the same distance apart? Chances of finding one are fairly slim but that's a good list to work from initially?

That said any wheel with same diameter spindle, same size discs and same distance between the discs should work in theory? I quite like the idea of a challenge here..

Ps Luke went to lydden last Saturday and watched it rain for most of the day.... One good session though!

Yeah, I was sorry to miss it...until it started raining then I was quite happy. Lydden has always been a bit nasty in the wet and more so now they are always putting rubber down Rallycrossing and drifting. Pat Doran is a mixed blessing as an owner but it could have been worse....fookin MSV could have bought it.

Yeah second session was only properly dry one. Was really good until the rain.

I managed a grand total of 21.4 miles on track! Pathetic I know but i don't derive a single bit of pleasure from riding round in the rain it bores me to pieces on the road and equally on tracks it turns out.

I really like it there menand a mate did the novice in august and really wished we'd gone inters this time novice was very slow and we were hitting traffic straight away which made it tough.

Luke, the green rear bit the dust in the Ducati 1098R ramming fiasco.

I picked up a brand new rear wheel for £220 the week after I got home.



The good news is I still have the front in green!
