Flo wants my SD!

I'm new to the site but have owned my 07 Superduke since Nov. Well this Sun I laid the SD down because this chic comes to a complete stop prior to entering the merging lane for the highway. I was looking to my left to see if there was any traffic in the other lane and when I look forward there was a car not moving about 20 feet in front of me. I tried to stop but grabed too much front brake and laid the duke down at about 25 mph. The duke slid into the back of her car and I slid along the side of her car. The SD didn't seem to be hurt too bad and I rode it about 2 hours to get home. I have full coverage insurance with Progressive and they looked at it today, I haven't heard the total yet but the parts alone are over $3000. The two big items were the gas tank and radiator, neither are leaking but the rad is dented/scraped and the gas tank as a hair line crack on the left side and a short deep scrape on the right. I was bummed out cause it took along time to find the superduke that didn't have alot of miles. If they do try and make it a total loss I will try and fight it or buy it back.

I think Flo just wants a real bike in those Progressive Commercials, other then the Ducks.

Why in the world do you think we want to see an insurance add WTF !!! Last year I bought a gas tank with fuel pump, a seat and a new radiator with fan, on this site for $500 USD, but I did get a smoking deal. I see tanks on e-bay all the time, for around $1000. There are other SD's out there if they want to buy you out. You can also make out nicely if you can buy the bike back. If they total it out it will likely have a salvage title. Most insurance companys will not write a full cover insurance policy on a salvaged bike. Bad new if you wad the bike or if someone steal it. Start looking what's out there and do your home work. At least your body does not have to heal, and you might have learned some valuable life experiences from your crash, if you are lucky. Make dang sure you under stand the term TAIL GATER, and always strive for extra buffer zones on all side of your exposed body. Oh! If you part the bike out, do it on this site first. I think you're fooked. The KBB (Using Atlanta 30311) was $6995 retail. So, it won't take much over $3K to total it. Personally, I'd let them total it and buy it back if it makes sense. It doesn't look too banged up.

It baffles me how quickly a bike is put into the totaled category. It is likely due to the ability for the insurer to stop the bleeding. Who knows how many vehicles have had their owners head back to the shop for that first unseen damage, leaving Flo to scratch her head.
I hate to burst any bubbles, my feeling is that you are well past the rebuild stage. Looks like you got yourself a track bike. Oafboy needs to chime in, He recently went through the same ordeal.

Great news, my SD will not be a total loss. They did slap a $4555 repair bill on it and I'm still waiting to hear how much they are going to give me for my helmet, jacket, and boots. They said my jeans weren't covered because I was wearing normal Levis jeans and not jeans that were designed as protective gear. I'm glad that it didn't get totaled, I was looking and there are a few Superdukes in the area for sale but some have high miles and only one looks like a pumpkin.

For me I would have gone for the total.and buy it back if possible.
I think they are never the same once they go down.But thats just me.
Their are a bunch of dukes out there brand new for good prices.Plus I can get you OEM KTM parts cheaper than anyone. A friend of 30 +years owns a KTM dealer ship in Ca. I know a shop right now that has a brand new 08 wht/black they will deal on.
It all down to what you can afford.

Get some Crash bungs fitted they really work on the SD (You need upper and lower Bungs)

I will be ordering the upper and lower sliders from motohooligan and I may get the airbox kit with SAS plates. I was also thinking about the clutch cover since I'm going to be replacing it too. As for levers I'm going to get a set of AVS shorties, all black. Thanks for everyones advice.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to say forget about it to your insurance and repair it yourself? Premium doesn't go up and you repair it yourself. Although I guess leathers ect won't be covered. Although did you damage the car? I guess if she's claiming it doesn't make a lot of difference.

Good news to hear all you limbs are still were they are supposed to be. This incident just goes to show you women don't belong behind the wheel. Good news that you keep your dream bike. Hopefully you get the wheels back on the ground and and get your gem back and shinny again in no time.
