Just had Perry Leask at HM racing put softer 90nm springs into my SDR front forks... He also gave them a service and replaced the WP oil with smooth posh Ohlins goo - which he says gives a plusher ride.
...the first test came soon enough: 25 miles across Centeral London from Orpington in Kent to Hammersmith; up the A21, A20, A2 and beyond - one of the planet's nastiest possible journey's in any vehicle!!!
And what a transformation. The bike tracked London's rippled and broken up roads like a scalextrix car on it's plastic tracks, and I didn't have to brace myself for every little rip in the tarmac. Turning on the speed didn't unsettle the bike at all, and a little more dive into fast turns sharpened up the steering a tad, in a most pleasant kinda way... My forearms were also much less pumped, and I arrived in Hammersmith as chilled as if I'd ridden there on a Honda Pan European. (well, almost)
Perry had found it hard to set the bike up for me with the OE SDR springs, and reckoned they were way to hard as a standard fitment, esp as I weigh only 75kg dry. Once the new items were fitted there were smiles all around as static and rider sag slotted into acceptable numbers and the rest of the damping settled into a better feel. (apparently)
Anyway - huge thanks to Big Ash for sending me his springs, and Top marks to HM Racing for a great job - again. ... I can't wait till Brands on 27th.
