[quote=How much reserve is there on these bikes anyway?[/quote]

Roughly 3/4 of a gallon. I have filled up pretty much immediately after the light came on, & it took 4.2~ gallons. The tank is just onder 5 gal., right? This bike is pretty thirsty.....

Hey guys I have an 08 990 SD. I bought it with 200 miles on it.Bone stock right now. I have 550 miles on it now .I was reading some threads on the fuel light.I saw differant years do differant things. My light seems to come on early. The last tank the light came on and I still had 2 gallons left. With my last bike a aprilia 750dd.When the light came on I was lucky to have a half a gallon. Is this normal for the 08 duke to have this much fuel left when the light comes on.I have a bunch of parts that will be installed soon. The motobox, and FMF apex pipes.I also plan on a remap as well. All of this will be done around the first service.Does a remap affect the fuel light.I normally go by mileage anyway. What kind of range should I expect with my 08 after all the mods.My DD was lucky to get 90 miles on a tank. I know my duke has a much larger tank than my DD.I ride it hard like the upper rpm range. Is 150-175 miles on a tank expecting too much? I am thinking or hoping 30-35 mpg .What is the norm for you guys. Thanks for the input Vic
I'm getting about 80 - 110 miles to a full tank with about 11 miles on reserve. 2010 SD standard up to press!

I get around 130 or more miles before the light comes on with a mix highway and twisties. I got the same with my SD as with my SDR.
I can get as low as 70 miles to a tank or as high as ... I don't know I haven't tried.
I seam to be getting about 125 mikes or so to a tank commuting.

I average about 110 miles till the fuel light comes on my SDR '07 and yesterday i wanted to get home quick so risked the fuel light on and i got 29.8 miles on the fuel light and still not filled up yet, need to goto the garage asap on next ride i think (is this a record?)
Hey Duke of Wrath, aren’t US gallons smaller than full size Brit gallons?

Thanks Bailz, and hence my point, US MPG is different to UK MPG due to the UK having man sized gallons.
Full tank easy ridding... 150kms... then fuel light... 30kms then im pushing
I said I never tried, now I have. Short shifting, cruising between 2 and 4 thou in 6th, and basically driving like an old lady, I saw 197 km before the light plus 16 km to make it to the station where I added exactly 17 l to bring back up to full. 08 SD with the usual mods, 16:40.
Was out riding with a conservative,( read slow), riding friend on a late sixties Bonneville.
Translated, 122 miles before the light, another 10 miles before putting 4.25 US gallons to bring it up to full. Not bad but I doubt that I'll repeat it.
27 miles with the fuel light on. Filled up with 4.944 gallons. That's the best I've done.
All I know is my SD gets more miles to a tank than my 990 Adventure! Fook! Where's the Adventure in that?

Then again Mr Adventure will hang with this group of ass-fault burners for 100"s of miles... no problem. Id like to see any other kinda of ADV bike do that!

Fuel light always comes too early However on my last 344km roundtrip with constant speeds of 90-110km/h and spirited overtakes everywhere (there was a lot) up to ..30-..60km/h it took 21 litres. So 6,1l/100km and there is no way to get this number below 6 from my experience. Even with slow riding I think, never tried (this is against nature of all why I bought this bike). I used touring screen though, as well as Kriega US-30 luggage on the back seat. Switched to 6th at 4000rpm-s everywhere possible and used 5th or 4th for passings. Fresh oil was in the engine as well.
21ltr ? I'd like to see you get that in to my tank, it does not take anywhere near that amount mate!

Just wanted to know what´s the most mileage, or kilometers have you done with the fuel light on?

Yesterday, I rode 37 kms.
45km with my old SD. This one comes on late, giuviung me about 20km tops
On my old 06 19miles, left me 1 mile push to the nearest station some of that was town riding though
172 on the counter which I'm guessing is just 17 miles and then put over 18.5l in the tank......
30 kms... Next time I started it it died on side stand so it was pretty empty by the time.
