Full Carbon Exhaust - opinions?

Well I was all set to buy some Al LeoVince exhuasts but I phoned up CarbonCanCompany and they are doing a full Carbon exhaust.

Theres only really £20 difference in price (if I order today) plus I get a lifetime warrnety with these plus its keeping it "local" so to speak.

What do you think? I was looking at the 350mm long sleeves. My bike is an 08 orange and black version so mainly black.

Well, you know what I think. Buy, buy, buy the Carbon Can Co cans! The full carbon ones particularly look the dogs! Maybe I should switch my SS cans for some of them. I likey!

Aye there not too bad. I just dont want them to be too loud plus it turns it is only the stainless that you get lifetime warranty. They only fit the carbon end can to the Carbon or Ti sleeves so its 12month warrnanty.

Well I just went and ordered them. Should get them next week. No questions the Leo's are nice but its good to be different sometimes.

Well I finally got these last week but since the bike is 60miles away in winter storage I didnt get a chance to fit till last night.

First of all they were well wrapped and seemed ok although one of the baffles hole in the caps was not drilled so I could access the retaining screw. Not too much of a issue as I was looking for something reasonably quite. Very very light. Not too sure on the link pipe either, should it not be more of a Y-piece.


Anyway got down to fitting and everything was ok however the cans were pretty damn tight to get on and didnt sit quite level. They did seem ok once everything was on. The cone's are just resting on the rear mudguard. Few crappy pics of it in the garage. Couldnt start it up as it was about 11pm.




Anyway I was busy all day but managed to get back early fo a quick blast. Started the bike up and bloody hell they were loud. These are sold as road legal but to me they werent. Waited for the bike to warm up and took it out for a quick blast. They werent quite so loud when gunning it but in and around town there no way road legal. Far too loud for me and thats with the baffles in place although they are only a couple of inches long.
I cannot ride it like this, its too loud for me. Now I do like the look but all the littl niggles have put me off. Im going to see what the policy they have on returns either that or better baffles. It needs something like the Arrow ones with a closed end pipe and perforations along its length.

They look OK to me, but if they are super loud, it's a NO-GO.

The Y-part (or T-part) is not good regarding the exhaust flow. But that is only important if you need the last 1,5 HP........ This T piece also put a lot of pressure on the RH silencer, probably 80% of the exhaust passes thru that way. The old KTM DukeII was made the same way.

If they were sold as road legal, you should have a chance to return them i guess.

All carbon fiber is not created equal. Lesser quality pieces will crack and discolor with heat and exposure to sun; also, there should be a metal reinforcement or rim for rivet/screw attachement of the endcaps and baffle bodies, otherwise vibration will cause them to shred the holes and become loose. Having said that, I'm not familiar with this particular brand, so I can't say one way or another. I had SATO pipes and cans on my RC51, Dan Kyle swore they were less problematic than the full Ti cans, so your guess is as good as mine. The noise is a whole other issue, and the fact that one of the holes for the baffles screws wasn't drilled doesn't speak well for this company's QC.

Finally, big bore vtwins really challenge the limits of carbon cans by virtue of the high volume exhaust pulses. Unless you really trust this company, I'd be leery.

I'm sorry you reckon they're too loud! For me they're about right with the baffles in - which as you say is still plenty loud. I never bothered taking the baffles out of mine and love the noise! Be interesting to see if the bike gets through its first Mot this year. Fingers crossed...
