Just saw one...on a trailer off Hwy 1 near Half Moon Bay. Almost turned around but it's cold, raining, and I'm starving. Anybody here?

Jeah !!! that was me gawed Damn it ! Went to Santa Cruz today , ripping along the whole way. Went to the board walk for a bit then came home. Took one of my favorite stretches parallel to the highway from Lobitos Creek Road north to the Verde Road connection. I've gotten to 120 mph on that 3 mile stretch and ( LOL ) fantasize it's like the ISLE of MAN ( i digress ). Anyway
made the left there on Verde heading toward the highway 1 . Ripped through first gear 16/40t and i guess i was amped up and kinda speed shifted into second and thought i BLEW the tranny - maybe missed a shift - but all power to rear wheel OUT !!!! grinding noises - coasting for 100 yards and finally looked down to front sprocket and nothing there that remotely looks like a FOOKING CHAIN !!! Of all things threw the damn chain ... the chain is dragging out the rear - it had caught itself on the chain guard where it bolts to the swingarm and was just dangling out the rear of the bike. NO MASTER LINK.

Only had 3 thou on that chain - had bought a master link from Cycle Gear in a pinch and never liked the damn thing in the first place but went with it against my gut feeling ( need to learn how to stop ignoring my gut ) it was a rivet type not a clip of course. But i guess it GAVE UP TO THE GHOST ! Could have been bad - only one little nick on the swingarm where can barely see it and one nick on the rear rim about 1/8th long that i'll just touch up with paint. Happy i didn't tear up the engine block or get the chain wrapped around the rear wheel and get thrown off the thing.

Gona say i've used up about 8 of my 9 lives and better start sobering up .....

Damn wish I had spun around to chat but we were anxious to get out of that drizzle and get some food.

Got it towed to Cycle West in Petaluma and grabbed a hotel for the night.

Symptoms-
05 VFR 800 51,000 miles
It "sneezed" 4-5 times today. By sneeze I mean I heard what sounded like pressure releasing from somewhere within combined with a momentary loss of power. Each instance occurred at varied speeds from stopped to highway. No lights, no other abnormalities.

Turned on ignition, cranked over a couple times while slowing down and all lights dimmed rather quickly as if something just depleted all the juice. Gave her a couple push starts to no avail. Hooked it up to a battery tender for 20-30 minutes off my wife's bike while waiting for tow and got full power back in battery. She cranked great for 5-10 seconds, fuel pump kicked on and everything, but no ignition and power began to fade.

Battery is a three week old Shorai. Only electrical mods besides a few farkles are the wiring harness recall. All other components are original.

So, some pressure releasing sounds earlier, cranks over but quickly loses power and doesn't fire up.

4000 miles from home too, right at the halfway point of a 35 day cross country trip. At least we got some laps at Laguna today...
