hey there, just wanted to give you guys a heads up on my most recent eye-opener... might not be a surprise for most of you....

wanted to take my SD out this Saturday but got let down as the battery was out - so after hooking it up to the charger - for sure after wrenching out the battery - I decided to ride a Harley called IRON883 a friend of mine stores in my garage. I for sure expected that the riding experience will be different but apart from that I had to find out the the Harley was a complete pile of trash...... had to kick in the gears, neutral was almost impossible to find, absolutely no suspension and the whole thing sounded like as if it would fall apart after the next turn.......

today I took my baby out again and sure.... grass looks different on other lawns but my one is still the best
With a name like "IRON883" it has to be an old ironhead sporty. Those things sound like they are twice as old as they are. IMO that is a poor example of what Harleys are. The twincam era of Harley is night and day from the past bikes. If you have a chance to ride a twincam powerplant, you may not hate it as you would think. Sure the SD and an HD are no comparisson in performance, but they were never meant to be compared that way in the first place.

well put - I just have never ridden a Harley, was aware that the quality is not the best out there but am really surprised how bad it is
and it's actually a sporter BUT made 2011
I have never been a fan of the sportster. I owned a '99 Dyna with 88k miles on it myself, but have ridden numerous others. I never thought it was near as bad as you are explaining, but then again, I think I only rode a sportster for about 30 seconds. lol. If I can ever bring myself to drop the coin on a Harley again, it would be another Dyna, or a bagger for comfy cruising. After ripping around on the SD, I kinda want to ride an HD again to see how bad it really is.

As a bunch of you know I have several bikes. Each have their own job to do.I have a 100 year anniversary hertage with all the bling. That bike has never let me down.30k miles and only one time did a part break it cost $50.00 other than that the bike is bullet proof. For riding a thousand miles or two it's a great bike.My wife loves to ride on the back because of comfort.I will never sell it.It holds it's Value .Most people who rag on Harleys never owned one. They are not race bikes they can be made to go fast I made mine faster it has over 80hp to the rear wheel the brakes work but they were never made for race speeds. If I want to go fast and stop fast I ride my duke.If I want to go faster I ride my RC8.You don't compair a sportster to a real harley they are so differant. The new ones are now comming with larger motors abs etc. They are still and alway will be a heavy bike.If you think you can take a 800 lbs bike with very little lean angle thru a canyon and try to keep up with a naked then you need some help.My duke is one of the most comfy bikes I have owned and I have owned plenty. But I don't think I would cross the the USA on one. mostly because of storage and the lack of a winshield. On my HD I can carry a week worth of clothes be comfy like an easy chair crank up the tunes and ride all day and night which I have done many times.Harley sells a shit load of bikes every year and has been doing it for a long time. Now are their better bikes ? yes but their not HD's Why do all the other mfg's try to copy them? because they know they sell period.Yes there are dicks on HD's But when I ride I give a wave to all on two wheels sometime on my duke or RC8 I don't get a wave back from a hd guy.sometimes on my HD I don't get it back from the sportbike guy.I have found that most HD people are cool and just love to ride. The 1% are the one you have to be carefull with.We all have our favorites I love V twins and having something special thus KTM's I would rather ride my duke over all of them. But I rode the HD tonite because it was cold and windy nice having a heavy bike in the wind and a full windshield when it's cold.
I love all bikes if I won the lotto I would have some of the old classics and the new bad to the bone ones It would be easy to buy a hundred differant ones some of the cafe bikes I have seen on this forum make me druel.
Have to agree..Harleys have their place..My last ride was an '02 Roadking Classic..Built up 103ci. and tons of chrome with ape hangers and pearl white..I totally loved it..Had it for almost 5 years..sold it. Couldn't watch the summer go by without riding..Looked at the Superduke. The gf got pissed..Broke up n bought it the next day..Haven't looked back since...I would own a Harley again..but I'd probably buy another brand..and..been thinking of adding a supermoto to my world of fun ..Won't be selling the Superduke anytime soon though..its just way too much fun.!!!

obviously not any of you really read my post.... i am not comparing riding or the feeling or the performance, I purely listed quality factors this HD model simply lacks in my opinion, period - nothing more or less.

I think HD is doing a great job marketing their bikes and their style, which is a major reason why they are "copied" - some are for sure nice to ride and I might have the opportunity to do that in the future but for now I am good with my SD
AKA Indian four,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, [/quote]

errrrr uhhhh.........
that's what I said..!!!
