#12I've never formally raced. Did a 2-day trackday at Phakisa, and joy of joys (being far from civilization) the organisers, on the spur of the moment, arrived with 30 transponders on the Sunday morning and said, LET'S RACE!
So at 15:30, Intermediates went out, and we lined up for our 'race'. Can say, I've done plenty of track days, but never started from a grid surrounded by bikes.
So in basically 1.75 days, only one minor crash by a fireblade, within 2 laps, 4 bikes down and one of them sitting on the track with his arm pointing in decidedly uncomfortable angles (yes, angleS - ouch).
Stopped the race, organiser gave us a right shit-out, and we got back out for a 4 lapper.
Into the last corner, I was 3rd, right behind an R1 and ZX10. The ZX10 decided to T-bone the R1 and I rode over fairings to take my first 'race' win. Yes, I have a 100% record
Must say, for all the track days I've done, nothing (and I mean NOTHING) prepares you for heading into turn one surrounded by bikes. What a rush. Being able to outbrake 2 bikes into turn 4 (first time, not allowed to during track days obviously) made me scream in my helmet. Seriously, I genuinely had a - face the entire race. Proper/real racers will know this much better than me, but it's the closest I've got on proper (non-gkart) machinery, and it was absolutely awesome!
And this wasn't even a proper race. Plenty guys pulled in at the end of the first lap because some guys (I might've been included in this bunch) were taking things a little too seriously hehehe. But still, the majority were riding their roadbikes. I kinda forgot about that though !
Oh, and my Dad came 2nd on his new (at the time) Blade. I swear I don't think he revved it past 8000rpm, he was just sittin' behind his boy makin' sure everything was okay - He could've taken me anytime!
