Helmet Disposal

Hello,

So I have the Shoei that I wear regularly and I noticed it is already 7 years old. So I'm in the market to purchase a new one. Not a happy thought since I'm looking at spending somewhere in the neighborhood of $600.

My question is how do you dispose of the old helmet? Just throw it in the trash?

I am probably going to keep my 2007 Shoei but I have a 1999 Shoei I need to throw away and a 2004 Vega I also need to get rid of.

Thank you for your input,
Go hand it to your local fire brigade or Ambulance station they may need it for some training.
Good thinking.

I also thought after I wrote the post to donate it to a motorcycle riding school. They typically ride in school parking lots at very slow speeds. I imagine if they hit the ground at 20 or so mph the helmet will protect the students.
If your going to bin it cut the straps out so nobody can pick up and use a 7yr old helmet……

…...the maximum life of a helmet that i know of is Five years and that even applies to brand new in the box helmets - i.e. if its five years old and still in the box its dead….
Dammit my Schuberth just bit the dust then... five years old this year. Fack
I have a lot of my helmets in my shed to remind me of my history. Seen that others do the same. Brings back good times and trips at a quick glance.
I save the helmets I crash in as fresh reminders.
