Finally getting around to doing my first mod - adding some Leo slip-ons. This site is overwhelming with the number of posts. Can someone direct me to one of the better posts for tips on removing the stock exhaust and installing the Leo cans? I called my local dealer and asked about flashing the ECU and they said they have a map from KTM which will work with pretty much all cans (one for baffles in and one for baffles out). It seems like most people use the Akra map, but my dealer recommended the KTM map. Down the road I'll take on the air filter and pcIII mods. Thanks for the help in advance.

#3Easy job to do! Removing the standard boat anchor requires some warm up and stretches or you will take your back out!
The standard map will run probably rich enough and mostly the akra map is way too rich. Don't get conned in paying for an akra map also. Tuneecu is free exept for the cable and you can do the uploading yourself and get a diagnostic tool on top. Good maps can be found in the how to download section.

#4I'm with KTMGUY here...do not get any of the Akra maps loaded by KTM...too rich. Better off running stock map until you get the MH airbox and SAS removal kit. The pipes will get you 1 or 2 HP at best. The real benny is the weight reduction and music! Get the MH airbox! You will not regret it...I guarantee you will love it for the performance gains alone 8hp in the mid!!
I've personally not jumped on the TuneECU band wagon yet. I've got a PCIII and custom map (not worth the money IMHO, bike will run fine on stock map with Leo's and airbox (will run a little better with map but will do no harm without one)). One day I will get off my ass and dive into this Tune ECU thing as it looks like a good thing. Just don't have the time at the moment.

#5Thanks for the words of wisdom. I'm out in the suburbs of Chicago. I was one of the lucky few that picked up a leftover '08 for $7,900. This gives me some extra cash for upgrades. KTM dealers are thining out here and I haven't found one yet that seem to be up on all of the tricks I've been reading here. It's a little intimidating asking nubby questions since I'm sure they've been discussed to death. Just very time consuming using the search tool to find what I need. My SD runs perfectly in stock form and doesn't have any of the fueling/snatchiness that others have experienced. I love the sound the Leos bring out in a twin (I have one on my vstrom). I just don't want to get in over my head and mess up the ride ability.

You have a great season ahead and one season non modified will get you in touch with just how much more money you wont need to throw at a smashingly great bike. You got any turns or should I say winding roads in your neck of the woods?
I too have a V-strom for the humdrum eat the miles dayz.
As dissimilar as one my think these two steeds are they have far more in common than meets the eye.
Around here, there are few to castigate poor or lazy searchers. Most will and are pleasured to give thier opinions adnauseam. Is a outskirt of Chicago, a Hoosier or a Prairie Dog?

#7When I installed my Yoshi's the thing would not run on the stock map at all , way to lean,, Akra map in as of now,,, and yes , on the rich side but runs much better,,,,,,,,,,,,
