I had my SDR on a gravel road and though I was going to die. I couldn't imagine sliding it around corners it's a lot harder than my SMC which makes riding on dirt fun. The guy has skills!

Hi Dirt,

You have mised your true vocation in life.

Speak to you local dealer, hire some SDR's and start doing training holidays.

pm me when you start, I am on the next plane.

You could call it the: Superduke off road, off cliff, off your head experience.

I think a good few of the UK SD.NET would come over especially if Squidward could sort us out with semi autos to take home.

If not, best of luck in 2009. I will be watching the web for your results.

I hope you all can make this pikes peak thing, I am sure it will be interesting, only $300 to enter it, but for me I will require 2 days to adjust to the altitude.

Woah, SDR.... Google earth working good and MY you have a compound not a house.... happen to need a grounds keeper?... security guard ect..

Well I'm signed up and prepping the big black beast for battle. If any of you guys are coming, do contact me and we will meet. I'll be there all week. Tech inspection on Tuesday, and testing/qualifying Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Saturday is off, and the race is on Sunday. It's a really cool event and lots of fun. Hope to see you there!

so Joe what you are saying is when you hit a gravel strewn across the road you just slide thru it???? doesnt the bike want to hook up and highside you off?

i dont ride dirt bikes but when ever i find a dirt area road or place to turn around i play around in it trying to (trying? its very easy actually!) to break the back lose and stay on the throttle. its very hard to do though, my head says to back off when it breaks lose and thats the first mistake i realise, im not talking crazy lean angles here but just trying to spin the bike around dirt bike style with out falling off.

i have also been in a turn and ran across gravel and slid the bike but it never feels natural, i try to stand it up and brake before i hit it if i have the time, then crank the bike over thru the turn.

Stratkat... I keep looking from side to side wondering if you are speaking to me or dirt4breakfast...

I do a fair amount of sliding but this man has some real nuts...

If i lived where he did I would be in on this thing... it looks like the h00t of a lifetime to me.. "when in doubt, power out!!"

i was in fact talking to you rider of the 'thunder pumpkin' in reference to your comment: "...Do it on a smaller bike and graduate up, we have lots of gravel/sandy roads here, it is just a matter of practice, nothing to it."

[quote="Stratkat"]elbows up center your self hip check motion and steady throttle input lean kinda like stopping on skates more scrubs off more speed watch a dirt track race on y tube they have no brakes cause it makes things worse steer into slide and lean angle plus forward or back lean, I had my duke sideways in mud and gravel touring 2008 cassiar highway full day of riding cornersat the bottom of hills and mud up to the front axle at times dry gravel is much nicer to ride in and the duke handles it well (could use 2 more inches of clearance on that air dam )

What a great guy!

High speed on SDR in dirt / gravel requires a proper pair.

I started a thread asking if anybody has done Pikes Peak on an SD. Here is the answer.

Would love to do it myself but they want a pro licence now and there is the small issue if an Atlantic to cross with a bike. Pitty there isn't a good road up snowdon or Nevis, we could do a mini version over here.
