Hot Weather Gear

I may have to break down and get some mesh gear. I ride in leathers with lots of armor, but the heat is getting to me. I can't find anything that looks protective enough but still flows lots of air. Maybe an impossible combination.

Any hot weather gear you would recommend?

Living in the "sweat belt", I can attest to perforated leather being the shiznit. I, too, wear full leather (baby) with hard armor, and it's miserable when it's hot & sticky. I'm also afraid nylon/textile stuff only protects you from bugs & sunburn - a fall will just melt it into your epidermis.

What really makes it comfortable is this little gem:




An evaporative cooling vest. And, as Joe as my witness, you will be COLD in 90+ heat (with perfed gear on) at speed. Get it locally or on ebay for $39+/-.

just bought the airflow 3 range from BMW (no big BMW badges by the way) and they are foookin fantastic!!!! Gloves, boots, jacket. They do pants - urban range in both summer pant and urban (bit thicker). No sweaty bollocks now

This is quite cool but a lack of protection, its one or the other...

the protection forms to your for arms well, there are straps too, the back protection is reasonable. The thigh protection is the same maliable stuff in the jacket, as is the knee protection. Look at the products if you get a chance, if you are going to consider textile stuff. It's the nicest textile gear I've seen, and everybody I know who has it raves about it.

They use real armor, and the gear fits better than a garbage bag, unlike most non-leathers. Keeping the armor in place is almost as important as having it.

I have a Dainese Zentex jacket, with full armor and ideal for the hot days.
The price was also good...

I wore the new Sinisalo KTM jacket yesterday, it has vents at the front and vents at the back which can be zipped open for circulation.

It was the perfect jacket for the ride. It's thin and lightweight and most importantly... cool.
Anything warmer than that and i wouldn't have enjoyed yesterday nearly as much.

I have Vanson's Ventiitlator jacket and pants. 1000 denier Cordura with no polyurethane coating. From what I've read, it's the polyurethane coating used as a sealant in most nylon fabrics that melts, not the nylon (in this case Cordura) itself. It also makes the Cordura feel a little softer against the skin. Cordura itself won't melt at the temperatures caused by sliding down asphalt depending on your speed and how long your slide on the asphalt. I would not use textile gear of any kind at the track. But for the street I make the compromise with confidence (or else I wouldn't wear it).

A lot of mesh gears "mesh" part of the material will not be the same denier or even Cordura as the woven part. Vanson uses 1000 denier all around and it has leather (underneath the Cordura) in the impact zones. The outer arms and full back are not mesh but solid woven Cordura. Pants are the same deal with mesh only on the inner thigh area up to the package and behind the knees. I've used it in 95+ temps and it works well. It is the most comfortable gear I've ever put on. Armor is soft type and CE approved. This is some of my favorite gear but I have never crashed in it to truly test it. I trust the Vanson name though and I read a lot about textile gear and materials before making a decision.

It's not really a mesh jacket for really hot weather that you're after but I just bought the KTM Street Evolution II jacket from the 2007 range and the 2007 peg scratch pants to go with it, I wanted the peg scratch jacket originally but nobody has the 07 anymore and I think the 08 looks a bit generic motorcycle clothing rather than KTM stylee, in fact I had to shop around to find this one as none of these left either and again I prefer the 07 to the 08, although not quite as bad as the other one.





I've only been out in it once but the jacket seems great and has vents to help keep cool, and if we didn't already know that KTM pretty much think of everything it even came with the other half of the connecting zip attached on both jacket and trousers so that you can get it stitched into any trousers or jacket you own that doesn't match up, I thought that was a nice touch.

It's made of cordura and Dynax, don't know what dynax is but it doesn't look like a melter anyway.

I've taken to wearing two piece leathers (perforated) all the time. Under Armor Heat Gear underneath the leathers really helps a lot. Just took a ride in 80+ degree weather and was actually quite cool while moving.
