How do I solve this dilemma?

Hello Dukers,

At the moment i'm in Canada (Fernie, BC to be exact) spending the season snowboarding, I saved up and have spent the last 4 months here just playing about snowboarding. My usual yearly quest involves me trying to spend as much time in the summer riding as i can and as much time in the winter snowboarding as i can and this past year has worked out very well...

However when i return home in about a months time i will be pretty much broke, i'm going to start working again as soon as i can, possibly two jobs but i loved it out here so much i have decided to come back again this November but this time for a year and i will be working while i'm out here (find out if i get my visa in 2 weeks) sooo here is the dilemma....

My SDR has been sleeping all winter while i have been away and i think i'm going to have to sell it when i get back, i wasn't planning too but i'm going to need the money to get me started for the first few months when i get to Canada again as the pay is crap (or the jobs i will be able to get will be anyway) I could ride the SDR through the summer and try selling it just before i go but it would be a risk and i think i could sell it easier and probably for more before i go. However i don't want to be left without a bike all summer as i'm gagging to get back on a bike already!

Also i keep getting this funny fascination with a new bike the bike taking my fancy is a Duke 690 (60mpg and it looks great) but how much will i miss the extra power of the SDR if i was to get a nearly new Duke 690 when i got back from canada in a year and halfish?

Also do you think i should sell my SDR in spring when im back and buy a cheaper bike to keep me going through the summer then sell the cheaper bike before i go or just try and sell the SDR just before i go in winter?

Ideally i'd never sell the SDR its the best bike i've ever owned and i love it to bits but its already sat for 6 months now and i can't leave her for a year again just depreciating

Buy an original Duke in the one or two version. Ride it and turn it over to the little bro for a year an half and be back on something when your broke. Sell rhe SDR now so as to relieve the tension and stress of it boiling down to a drastic measure come November first.

I have heard good things about the KTM690. For a comparision cc wise I have a 2000 XR650R. I am always amaized how fast this bikes gets to 80 mpg. It is lighter than the SD and hauls ass up to 100mph. From what I hear, the KTM 690 has the Honda beat. I think you will be fine with the KTM690, and will even be a better rider when you get back on the 990. You will learn how to manage / keep your speed, on the 690. The 990 can make you lazy with the extra power of the extra cylinder.

Keep it, and take it with you when you go back to Canada.

Mrs had 2008 690SM ..with full Akrapovic system which makes a significant difference (.....More difference than any other bike that I have put Akras on ......and I have put them on a lot......works much better than Full Akra on 690 DUKE)


You will miss the SDR ...unless the roads you ride are very tight and twisty and crap surfaced then its the dogs.....it will max out 120mph and is loads of fun.....will do 60mpg if taken steady (if you thrash it 40mpg)
