Hi,
My Yoshi cans will be here Wed.
Anyone got advice how much to tell the insurance company regarding mods to the bike?
Paperwork says they must know everything.
I'm with insuremyride.com.au
This is one of those "damned if you do and damned if you don`t" situations.
If its a mod that`s outside of the manufaturers specifications or not for street use they will have reason to disclude that mod or even a entire claim.
Get hold of the PDS and have a good read before you go ringing and asking questions.
I have never had problems listing after market cans with either Swann or QBE but I have never had to claim either.
insuremyride cover riding gear?

Over here they only screw you if it adds more than 10% to the power of the bike. That can of course is hard to prove as who is to say what she put out before? I put Akras, Motobox and PCIII on they didn't bump my premium up in the slightest Sure it's different in every country though.
I used a gocomare website did it without mods and then with mods, it made no difference in price
I'm with Shannons and I told them about all my mods, pipes, airbox, levers, steering damper and it put my premium up about $25.00. When I binned my VTR a couple years ago I claimed for a new pair of carbon Jardines. $1600 worth without a quibble. Only paid half that for the original pair.
Same as Klincky here. I told em everything and it didnt make much difference if at all. No point in not telling them cos then you wont be covered so in that case you are just wasting your money....might as well just get the shittiest cover you can if you ant gonna tell them.

Personally, i know it costs a fair bit but i have insurance cos i need it. I cant afford to lob my ride or have it nicked.
Tell all......snitch..

Try this wording;

'May we remind you that you have a duty to disclose all material facts. A material fact is defined as any information that may influence an underwriter's acceptance of a risk. If you are in any doubt whether a fact is material, it MUST be disclosed, because failure to do so may invalidate your cover and could mean that part or all of a claim may not be paid. Your duty to disclose is ongoing and does not apply solely at inception or renewal. '

As noted above, the insurer may not charge for the modifications, on the other hand some insurers won't touch a modified bike. In the event of a claim and in this tough financial environment, if the insurer can seek a legitimate way pout of paying a claim they will use it. Don't let the lack of notification of a modified bike be their easy ticket.
I tell them about every little thing, but say I want a standard parts should anything happen. I always insist they list it as a battle spec though and say I want a battle spec price if it's written off !
I tell them the basics... So they know I have aftermarket cans, but that they are factory items (since KTM list Akras as official parts) but I left out the MH airbox, posh seat, and PC111 and small chassis parts like levers and rearsets.
In the UK and in recent times, Insurance investigators have used peoples blogs, twitters, facebook and forum comments to obtain sufficient information to enable the insurers to knock back claims. So if you are running around with performance improvements and posting them on here, be careful if you have not disclosed all to your insurers..
I told them everything and my insurance didn't go up a single penny, they will only replace most things with std parts though.
insuremyride is part of shannons so i wouldn't think they will have a problem with mods, best to tell them, don't give them any opportunity to refuse a payout. i'm with shannons and have had a couple of small claims, windscreens etc and have never had an issue, very good to deal with. what's that saying? insure for the day you need it, not the day you pay it!

I listed the Akras I just fitted, online with my insuremyride policy. Next day they rang and asked if I wanted to insure them for extra? I said why?, as they would be cheaper to replace than the OEM mufflers!

They said you're right, that's ok, we'll leave it at that.................my god! An insurance company with some common sense!
Have I stumbled onto the holy Grail? I have been with insuremyride for 4 years now, a record for me, as I'm used to being bent over and reamed annually by other companies. So I usually have to do the annual ring around to get the best deal, to save my sphincter!

Although I didn't realise as Looney said they are owned by Shannons, who are the most difficult and inconsistent pricks to deal with ! Interestingly I have approached Shannons several times for quotes, encouraged by mates who seem to get amazing deals with them? I have never had a claim and yet they are usually $ 1000 to $1500 dearer than their competitors? Go figure!

Cor Blimey! So most of you guys bother with insurance then! LOL!
my sd isn't finished yet so i have no idea what it will cost to insure but my S4R costs $350 a year to insure, a LOT cheaper than you poor souls in blighty, i know you get ass raped on bike insurance as well as cars, house, contents, etc.

paul.
Paul, who are you getting that premium with for the S4R? My wife is paying that for her S2R, which is so cheap, only apparently because not many 40 YO females make claims on naked bikes! Females are less risky obviously to the insurance companies.

Since going from the Aprilia RSVR ( $750) to the SD ( $450) with insure my ride the nakeds are much cheaper to insure.
