#5I am having a similar dilemma. My SDR was in the shop for 4 days and I had a ZX6r as a loan bike. I had a ball on that thing and I was quicker through some of my favourite roads even having only ridden the bike for 30mins.
Now I am about to do a 3 day riding adventure next week and I will make the decision then.
I say take a couple 1000s for a ride and see if it is what you're craving.
You can always come back to KTM when they release a new SD.

#6One reason to keep the SD,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,It's NOT made in Japan,,,,,,,,,,,,,and is a "timeless design",, where as the Jap bike will be dated next year,,,,,,,if you must,,,,get one as a second bike, that's all folk's,,

#7i know i would regret getting rid of mine, but then i wanted one before they were in prototype form. inlines do nothing for me either though (and yes ive had a GSXR1100, a CBR900RR, and test rode a SR1000RR. my buddy has a 2 year old CBR600RR. there is something sterile about and inline, Vtwins are much more viseral to me).
i still love the thing as much as i did when it was new!

#8i am a new person the world of the SD having gone from all the jap bikes on the market and i do have to say they are amazing machines. but i always had the desire for a euro v-twin because of the uniqueness and there amazing sound. the euro bikes have something more to offer in a bike then the jap bikes, and i think that it comes down to a passion that is unmatched by any others. i see the smaller companies going against the big 4 and able to run along side them and even beat them. that just tells me that its not about how much money a company markets its brand, its about the loyalty the company has to its brand and the people willing to take the chance on them.
i took my chance an i am glad i did. i think that one smaller company has changed me into a lifer of the unique and different. keep the duke for the passion and ride jap bikes for when it rains

#9Our Katooms teach us more about our riding style. I find it easier to ride fast on an inline 4..But it requires more knowledge, finesse and feel to ride the Superduke... What does that tell you.
I'm curious what your opinion would be if you could ride an newer RC8.

#11thanks for all the replies guys,i really just fancy a big 4 again im not bothered about going at warp speed!i know the gixxer has mega torque so riding it normal should be easy, and it would defo have renthals fitted,i,m not convinced yet though, ive spent fortunes on my duke and it does everything i need,i might just try get out for a decent ride on it if this shitty scottish weather ever lets up!then see how i feel

#17the grunt of the sd isnt that great im afraid 75ish lbft compared with around 100 lbs ft for the gsxr! that was always my main complaint about the duke the lack of shove at low revs, my last bike was a harris magnum with a 1200 bandit motor and it would pull top gear from 25 mph the dukes motor wants to jump out the frame at anything less than 3000 rpm!

Post 18 by stalker,
#18i had a bandit 1200 for a few years and loved the the engine
and before the sd i had a zx6r(636) and was able to easily do fast group lap times
but . . .and this is the but . . .the sd just involves you more and makes it so much more fun .
i may buy a rocket again , but only for the track , and only because if i threw it down the track i wouldnt be upset .

#19Reasons not to buy an I4 bike:
Very little feedback from the engine. They're just too smooth and have no character, just efficiency.
Who doesn't have one? SD's are very rare where I live and it gets stares every day.
They're not really that fun unless insane high speed is your thing.
They're not comfy for most people.
Unless it's a track bike I've never known anyone to keep their rocket for several years. They're race replicas designed for the track. My good friend just bought an R6 about 5 months ago and he's already looking for his next bike.
I've always felt there was a connection between the small percentage of riders who do track days and the large number of supersports for sale (R6, GSX-R, etc). Those bikes aren't designed for public roads like street fighters are.

#20If you get a Gixxer be aware that they have a weak frame. In a crash or even an off the frame can break just back from the steering head on the welds http://www.600rr.net/vb/showthread.php?t=91932 I had a recall on my bike and the fix was a moulded extra frame brace that was glued onto the main frame yes glued.
My bike was a 06 and that thing had some serious nuts but in the real world its not fun. The other thing is if you put higher bars on you will be changing the weight bias and you will loose a bit of feel in the front end.
Now if they made a muscle bike with that engine in it well that my friend would be mad.
Ive owned R1, busa , Gixxer and other crap and I would rather be sitting more up right than laying down these days but in the end its what you think you desire and we don't live long in this life so go with your heart.
Me I would get the Yamaha R1 with the crossed plane wank shaft

#21when I got divorced the prototype (as my Mrs calls her) gave me the good news on a Saturday morning.
Following Saturday I bought myself a new bike.
Treat yourself. Have both. Hell, go and buy a 400EXE as well.

I really liked my test ride and can you say smoooothhhhhh engine and fast, like a IN4, sort of......and for you guys who have never been on a busa, or a big gsx'r.... you have no idea what you are missing, none. Love my ka tooms tho. Got two now and looknig at #3. 08 SD, on my second 300EXC and may be a future 950 Adventure to replace the 99 Triumph Tiger. My granny told me as a young lad to be like Jesus and love them all....Thanks granny.

#28i ask myself all the time why i sold the harris,i built it myself got featured in 2 mags(streetfighters and 100% biker) guess i just got bored, tbh i like the sound of the speed triple but ive no idea how they would handle compared to the superduke, ive been banned and nowadays its all about the corners not outright speed
Post 29 by KTM666,
#29I owned a 08 speed triple and that thing is to top heavy. I tried sag, Also different rebound and comp settings and just couldn't get it to handle right I didn't trust the front end. I really liked the motor but It did jump out of gear 2 times going through some corners and scared the crap out of me. The biggest let down though was the built quality I actually had paint coming off the rear panels. I sold it within 3 months as I had other problems also. As for the latest model I have no idea.

#30Speed Triple...nah...Street Triple 'R' soooo much fun (The mrs has one so I get to ride it back to back with the SD ......very very close and handles better.... ...and this standard out the box)
Pulls like a twin revs like a four....if they ever make a 1000cc (Street triple /Daytona) it will clear up ...such a great motor...with brakes and handling to match
