#3The more your 'Track v Road' goes towards 'Track' ...the more you would want an SDR (08>)
The difference is about 7-8hp extra with the SDR at the very top end over a SD with similar loss below 7,000rpm and this seems to be repeated with each mod..so with similar modifications the SDR keeps the advantage
Much better rear shock (I have SD with SDR rear Shock.....so much kinder to rear tyre now) and more ground clearance (which is more important than you might think)
The pre 07 SD (small tank and non-radial brakes) fit between the SDR and the later SD regarding handling and power, when they brought out the SDR they softened the standard SD 08> slightly (steering geometry and softer cams…but gave it a bigger tank and radial brakes)

#4I have finally taken my SD 06 round the track for the first time and I was very surprised so am now wondering whether to track my 06 or buy an SDR for the track only... I've just got home and still have a pile of bits to put on her but I would rather put 1% mods on my dedicated tracker. Hard to find in Oz second hand so I'm now going the import route. Found a guy who deals a lot out of the USA but I'm yet to find someone in the UK.
I'm very keen as although I was down a little on the straights, it was way faster in the rain. I'm keen to compete in the stock1000 class.

#6Proof that the rider is the bigger influence in all this Jody. You are a much faster rider than me and a lot of other guys mate but it cannot be denied that an R is faster than the standard SD in the same hands.
I'd bet that after a coupla TDs on an R, you would be faster Jody. By how much is unknown.

#9Tbh... You will be better off spending the extra money on rider training. That will make u much faster than what the SD could. Plus add a quick shifter and an sdr will not make any ground on you down the straights anyway

#12I know that if I want to be guaranteed the best chance of winning at the lowest cost, I'd buy something japanese, sufficiently cheap and reliably fast. You can pick up a 63 second R6 for under 5k.
But I did the supersport thing a few years ago and it was fun but not as fun as throwing the SD Dow the track. If I want to win here I have to go up against Daniel stauffer and I know who'll win there. I'm more concerned with fun and the challenge of something different.
The only thing I don't want is to bin my beloved Helga on the track. So I need a pure race bike that I can bin, pick up, tape up, and ride on. And if I'm buying a bike for the track, I'd like it to be the best starting point I can... If that means another 06 I'll do it. But if an SDR can get me a little closer while still keeping it fun, well that's the best of both worlds.

#13if you can get an 06 thats had a lot spent on it I would go for that
