Mass, if you want you can always invest in a Scott Filter or a magnetic oil drain plug...

I talked to the K&N filter rep at Laguna Seca (they had a booth). Apparently they do not make a filter for the SD yet and probably wont. This sucks (if it's true) cause I like their stuff.

So, off on my merry way to see a new toy this week and thought I'd see what we think

07 Sdr (half fat)
Yoshi
Rottweiler
Sas
Various power parts
Clean
8.5k miles
Service history
Had a few owners - 6
120 at the wheel

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301166645555

Seems bit on the expensive side for a half fat SDR? Worth buying a clean 07 over a more expensive 08? Not massively fussed about having full fat but wanna make sure she's worth the slaab

Wow I know 990s are holding their value well but that is a lot of dosh for a 7 year old bike.

Well, as someone who has an '07 bike and just added up the cost of all the parts I've added, (many of which this bike also has - or comparable alternatives), I don't think it's a bad price really. (it's pretty low milage for a six year old bike).

The debate just had on the forum about this concludes that one never gets the price back from the investment if you sell it with the bike and that standard bikes often go for a similar price to one that has all the work done on it.

But you really have to ask yourself what you would do if you got your hands on a good condition standard bike, say for the going rate of realistically £4,000 - £4,500. If you wanted to do the SAS and get and airbox and exhaust you will be looking at a minimum of £800 - £1000 for used parts and maybe upwards of £1500 for new. Then add on the cost of remapping and a PC111 or similar and all the other bits that improve the bike. This forum is addictive and it's hard not to want to make all those mods and upgrades when you read about them!

So a lot of people end up spending upwards of £6,000 to £7,000 anyway. If you feel confident that it's been done well then not just buy a bike that's already been done?

The only think I don't like about this bike is that it's had six owners.

"Yoshimura Carbon slip on cans £1100"

Pfffffft that shit is only like $900 USD lol

Yea that's been at the back of my mind Bic, been there before, brought bog stock with full intentions of modding, then spent tooo much money on pretty things.

Trouble is Its looking to be a really clean bike, with some nice extras. Just need to ask myself is It worth it. Think it looks fit but didn't know if committing to a half fat R, sacrificing comfort and not getting the full fat benefits are worth the premium.

Thoughts if you had the same dilemma?

The thing about the full fat bike is that the throttle glitch is much worse than the 07.Some would consider the earlier bike is the better buy.
My choice would be the 2013 with a single seat conversion and the black paint job.I have a disquietening fear that I would enjoy one more than the 1290 I am waiting for.

I know two people who have purchased 08 SDR's with exhausts and extras between £4200-4500, Yoshis when they first came out could be bought for £500 imported from the US. Well overpriced.

If you like it, can afford it and you're not buying it as an investment (always a crap idea with vehicles anyway, especially bikes) then find one you like and get that. Who really cares if it's a few hundred over the odds, scraping about for the lowest possible price is not always the best policy.

Good luck whatever you get.

I wouldnt buy a bike with that many owners so I am out.

I reckon 6200 is a tad optimistic and he would probably take 6k, perhaps a bit less.

However, as always, it begs the question why not take the bike back to std and sell the bling seperately?

By my reconing he could get 5.5k at this time of year for an 8.5k 07 SDR

Then

20 for bars
20 for levers
10 for bar ends
30 for the two orange res caps
150 for the Rotty system
250 for cans
40 for lower R&G bungs
40 for upper R&G bungs
40 for KTM axle sliders

That is 600 quid which would give 6100 total. All the bling would go like hotcakes on here.

If he has original sprocket he could get a bit for the Supersprox rear too

I'm toying with the idea of selling my SDR 990:

SDR 2008

Full power version

Rizoma handlebars and Mirrors
ASV shorty levers
Motohouligan Airbox, SAS removal kit
Power commander dynod at 128 bhp by Dyno Ecosse
Yoshimura Carbon silencers
Standard exhaust also av if you're looking for a boat anchor!
G2 throttle
Suspension reworked by FTR
Supersprox rear sprocket, front sprocket and new black plated chain (500 miles ago)
Gel seat
Touring (?) screen fitted.
Quite a number of original bolts replaced with probolt alloys (black)
Excellent condition

I've bought a 1290 and am finding it hard to convince the wife I need both
