Got back from an awesome day at work early today so decided to fix the corroded charge cable on the EXC. All went so well i had about 20 mins to spare before the GF got home from work so i span her round the block. Had also been adjusting idle speed so fuelling was under scrutiny and performed well too

As it was a toodle round the block i was in my work clothes....had lid n gloves on of course but only sweats, trainers and polycotton work combat trews. (can you tell where this is going yet?)

The bike felt fuggen orsm and i was having a blast, a few little wheelies and some speed bumps.....so much fun in fact i forgot the left hander.....folded the front end and dragged my ass down the road.

That'll learn me....fooking road rash from hell.....arm, hip, knee, wrist etc.....fooking stings like a septic cunt (I imagine). Will NEVER go out on road without leathers again. Ever!
Damn dude... OUCH

Hope you get to feeling better soon.. (Unfortunatley been there done that.)
No fun
Dosnt sound too good mate.
Hope you better soon.
What was you thinking, is ok just for a little test ride, but id never ride without leathers.
Specially wheelies etc.

You better tell wotk you need so e new PPE
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Nice quote in the title though, you are the bard of Shoeburyness.
Lesson learned mate luckily you escaped with only road rash and hopefully the bike did'nt get too scuffed.
I still go for a tootle up the road on mine after working on it,usually only in shorts and trainers and helmetless pullin wheelies i should know better at 50+ and the injuries that i've sustained in the past you'd have thought that i'd have learned my lesson........but no it appears i have'nt

Hope you stick to your gun's mate and wear protective clothing at all time's,it make's sense, heal quick and enjoy picking at the scabs
Sods Law... speedy recovery mate.
Cheers guys. Am quaffing vino and trying to milk some sympathy from the missus

fooking stupid of me...i blame the bike.....if it was SOOOO much fun i wouldnt be in this mess! Damage is snapped off side stand (a bolt and springs should be enough) amd slightly twisted forks. Will loosen them off and reallign. It is even tougher than the SDR i think! It bounced up a kerb and I still rode it home!!! Legend.

Tomorrow is going to be fun, ripping these bandages off. Gonna let em dry out once I'm up.

If anyone's got any top tips on road rash I'd appreciate it

Work seem to be cool with me off tomorrow. Will be post whoring a lot!
Ouchy

We need pics !!

IME best way to get the bandages off is to soak in the bath for a while first , but whatever you do it's still gonna sting !

GWS
That was kinda what i had planned Jody

Could get any burn pads big enough so I'm currently sporting about 4 jam rags from the GF's collection. Sanitary, self contained and absorbant. They're actually bloody good! No pun intended....
Old school medical advice: If it is dry make it wet and if it is wet make it dry. Put some talcum powder on the grazed areas before bandaging. You are looking to get a scab /crust formed so that the healing can begin underneath.

The Tampax are a good idea though, that way you will still be able to play tennis or ride a horse whilst recovering.
I was thinking of going rollerskating tomorrow.....
at the new inate ability to now be able to ride horses, go skating or jump out of a plane

Damn though I feel for you, I had a drunken long boarding accident landing shirtless across a gravelly path and had to get olga to pick the stones out of my back, the next morning i was stuck to the sheets and had to peel myself off em, that was when it started hurting and that was just from a long board not a motorbike, I'll bet that stings like a mofo

You've always been pro gear as well, must have been a mad 5 minutes decision, I was lucky in my youth not to have had accidents on those occassions I'd nip to the shop at lunch time on my bike in office attire.

These days it's kevlar trousers minimum for short trips to the office.

Hope it don't take too long to heal and you get plenty of soothing from the mrs.
Ouch bud I can feel those bed sheets peeling off just hearing about it

On hot days in the summer I still ride the SD a mile or 2 to see friends only wearing shorts, T-shirt and gloves. Madness I know and I'm gambling I can get there safely but its just so nice. Hope I never get to experience what you are now. Heal quickly m8
Shade, thanks for the PSA. I've had my share of rash, but, thankfully, its been some years since the last occasion. Your post is a reminder that it can happen at any time - even that putt around the block. ATGATT.

A good antibiotic creme like Neosporin or some Bactin (has Lidocaine) will take some of the sting out, speed healing and reduce scarring. As for getting the bandages off, rubbing alcohol should help dissolve the glue and a quick tug is usually less painful than a slow peel. You may also want to shave the areas where the tape will stick if you re-bandage. I used to be an EMT many moons ago. Heal up soon!

I'll probably be post whoring with you for the next day or so. I'm in the process of passing a kidney stone, so if this post makes no sense, blame the Vicodan.
Feelin your pain Shade. Best remedy is 4 or more cans of Guiness and a couple of Panadine Forte or better ( particularly if you gotta scrub some rocks and gravel out ). Bit of Betadine powder and light gauze pad bandage and then a sleeping pill ( or more Guiness ).

One positive if your a spotty fella like me, is the new skin won't have any freckles. Good luck with getting sympathy from the GF ( I've never managed to do that ).

Hope you and the bike are feelin better soon.
There are two crying shames here. One that you done the very thing that you have told yourself could likely end you up in pain and two, noone on here will learn a single thing from this painful lesson. That is including you. It is part and parcel for the quick trip out to check on all of our incredible wrench techniques. The day that we start believing that the situations are unsafe and wrap ourselves in our fears is the day we gave up another part that says we a invinceable. Fine line, you crossed over. cross again when the last scab hits the wastebin.
I always put full gear on when going out... not worth the risk! Call me a pussy...I probably am, but I don't go out without protection

having said that I do ride in kevlar jeans without any kind of armour underneath, so I am kinda stupid at the same time as being a big girl.

Shade - sucks to be you, man. Get some pics up so we can up the sympathy level a notch or two. get well soon little man
