I just got back from a quick ride around the USA on the super duke. Final tally: 2 months on the road, 15k, 2.5 oil changes, 2 sets of tyres, and 1 absolutely knackered stock chain. Still working on the ride report but you can read about it here:

and yes my ass f'ing hurts.

Really enjoyed reading all that.

Has it made a difference?? Quater life crisis overcome ??

I hope it lived up to your dream. Although slightly too lazy to do it myself I am a bit envious as the urge to escape never completly goes away......

Well done, an epic SD adventure

Well written and great pictures. I never went as far or for as long but I wish I'd taken more pictures.

Epic man! Life altering journey. Much props. I wouldn't want to do more than 200 miles a day on my SD... Ride safe, I've subscribed.

15k miles without a breakdown? You got a good one! Sorry you didn't make it out to us, although truthfully I was just looking for an excuse to go ride for a few days. Good to hear you made it back safely.

Wow, it sounds like most of us are not touring on our SDs! I think 4-500 miles a day sounds like a blast, but the bike is still new to me. Plus I am buying a member's "pig ugly" puig touring screen for mine. I'm curious how he got those soft bags mounted without roasting on the cans though. Definitely subscribed!

originally i fabbed up some aluminium heat shields that kept the bags off the cans. After a few thousand miles they snapped off from the vibrations and the bags just sat right on the carbon cans. They didn't melt but whatever was inside the bags got nice and toasty at the end of the day.

Would you use the SD again?

Great thread. Am I missing something though? The story ends at the hostel on page 8 for me.
