#49The running guidelines in the manual are on the conservative side IMHO Hours of riding bouncing off the rev limiter will have a long term effect on the life of the engine. Probably not in the life time of your ownership but it will have an impact. So no running at a trackday (a couple of weeks ago a guy ran his new ZX10 in at the track and its not his race bike!). Avoid long runs at a constant speed and rpm. I do not exactly ignore the rev limit mentioned in the manual but under smooth accelaration I often will use 80-90% of the rev range.
My old SP1 engine felt very tight from new and therefore I broke it in quite carefully but the GSXR 750 felt fine and I was more free with the revs. For both bikes I changed the oil and filter after 50kms. With modern engines and oil it is not so important but since it does not cost a great deal (in time or money) why would you not do it.
An ex-mechanical engineer who now spends his day taking care of design software for mechanical design.

Your looking for changes in load, changes in revs, deceleration, heat cycles, using the gearbox etc
On the road (depending where you live) you have traffic and everyone trying to kill you to contend with...

#54I'm glad to hear this - I'm putting 300V (and new filter) in mine as we 'speak', preparing for my 2-day Sept. track day - I'm putting 15w50 in, I'm not technical, but considering the trackday is in Welkom (hot +30deg), and 2 days running, I'm hoping this is the better one for the conditions?

#61Parhaps there is something in this mine is smoother ,thats why I dont get the moans of some SD ouners abowt snachyness , I did run mine in my way ,I have run a lot of new bikes in in my time and I knoe what werks , I dont thrash them and I dont folow to the book eather this is there just to cover the manafakchuers worrenty , you have got to let things bed in ,but you allso need to werk the engin as well but not for long peariods of time , it takes abowt 3000'miles to get an SD nice and lous ,and spining up niceley .

#63Joe you are rihgt I have sed this , I dident stop my bike from the fan coming on or the odd stawl untill it had done 10'000 miles ,this is wen the fan stoped comeing on , while the bike was ideling ,wen I opend the doors to put the bike away ,bfor this the fan wood come on ,
as in I still had a tight engin and it was getting hot , now after 20'000,odd miles ,its as loos as a Hoes draws and go's like stink .
