Can anyone advise if the SDR power parts Gel seat works or am i better getting a custom job.
If so any recommendations.
Thanks
Hard one to answer. Folks either get a custom seat made from the original or buy the KTM ergo seat. Hard for anyone to offer a comparisson. I guess a lot depends on who does a custom job on yours. Lets be honest anything is better than a standard seat (although Shade will try to deny this) but my custom gel seat isnt long distance comfy and it is more thickly padded than the ergo seat. I would prefer the ergo seat for its lower height but I havent tried it for comfort. Maybe the gel is better quality or the seat better sculpted and it works better? Who knows? Unless I can get one cheap or borrow one I will stick with what I have.
I have a Corbin. It's still pretty stiff and the edges are sharp. Honestly if I was buying again, I'd probably try the KTM parts seat instead.

That, or a custom jobie over the stock seat with some beads or maybe one of those airhawk pads. The beads and airhawk covers spread the load over multiple pressure points and IMO that's key to long distance comfort. With the Corbins and Sargents and other custom seats, you still sit on 2 major pressure points and no matter what, your ass will start to hurt sooner than later.

The part that sucks is that you can't try before you buy... so you're stuck $$$$.
My own opinion is there isn't any difference in either seat..Gel is just as uncomfortable as the Std. seat..When I bought my SD it came with a package and the gel seat came with it..I've been experementing with the std. seat..Cut it down 2 inches..Still want to take it back to my guy...Have it narrow it down a bit...He's re-using the original cover..It's a lot better and cut it so my arse sits down in it better instead of sliding back..

oops..I have an SD not an SDR..Sorry gents...I guess none of the std. seats are very comfy..either model...
I got the KTM Ergo seat for my SDR. Couldnt make the ride up to Pasir Gudang, do a track day, and then return home on the original. Can now though. It's still a racing seat though, no good for a comfy full day out touring around.
I think you will get a different response from many different people, so here goes. I hated the stock seat. I spend a lot of time on my dirt bike mostly sitting down and I thought I could handle the stock seat no problem. I was wrong. After about 45 to 50 miles it turned into a no go. I put the KTM gel seat on and it made a world of difference. I can rock out over 300 miles now and it is not a problem. I will also say if I know I am doing a long day of riding I will put on my fox shorts. Padding in the arse. Much cheaper than the $$$ for a custom seat.

Bought the KTM ergo seat for an 1800 mile trip which did make a difference, but for normal scratchin i prefer the standard seat which i've covered 15200 mile on so far. If i do another long trip i'll put the ergo seat back on but for day to day riding i favour the standard seat that said it all depends how you ride your bike,i could'nt slip from side to side fast on the ergo seat (too grippy) so it did'nt suite my riding style through the corners.
Just fitted the single seat conversion looks awesome, but i underestimated how uncomfortable it would be ... Any news on the ergo seat.. worth the $$?
I guess if you read it properly its the SDR seat not the standard seat...

I had a standard SD for 18 months and i found this seat to be superb for all day or a week in the IOM.

Replaced the 07 SD with a late 08SDR and the seat is a plank....I fitted the ergo gel seat from KTM powerparts and a 200 mile trip later was thinking what a waste of money.....given time however the seat has changed.

I went to a well respected seat maker in Preston who could refinish and fit a gel pad to the standard plank but my suspicion’s were aroused when he said don’t expect miracles overnight, the gel pads take time to mould to your crevice and given time become more comfy.

I decided to take the gel seat off ebay and stick with it...2 years on it is alot better but not great, it also has a big downside if you track day or fast change of direction in that it is very grippy which don’t help in this situation.

I have done a conversion to standard seat with rear pegs but bought the ergo gel seat for a big saving over standard ..most people say no difference so i had only money to save, this seat is by a long way more friendly to the derrière and i get to carry a pillion / day pack / ext.
The gel standard seat to me is only used for a month or two a year so I don’t have any real reference other than being really comfy.

The standard SDR seat i used if i am doing the journey 2 work (12miles each way) as it has a good fast twisty road section and the seat helps to slide around.

So i guess from reading this back to myself....the answer is complicated, and to add another spanner in the works, when i first bought the SDR I felt so uncomfortable i bought a pair of cycling shorts with a pad that easily fitted under my leathers for the 600 mile brake in and service period and I had no trouble at all. The Best of both worlds , slidey seat with a gel pad onboard so to speak.

My RC8 seat feels about as comfy as the SDR gel seat but being wider just seams to work fine at any distance i have spent on it.
great ...thanks for the info.. really appreciated.
This thread makes my ass hurt just thinking about it. I have the powerparts gel seat and anything over an hour and you'll feel like your sitting on a plank of wood.
lol... Well i rode mine to about 100m and started feeling the burn..lol
