KTM or other alarm?

So in switching my insurance company, they want an alarm on the SD or they won't insure it for comprehensive (theft, fire, etc...).

I've read on here and elsewhere re; ignition imobilizers leaving riders at the side of the road when they decide to go the way of the ghost... and in this case, the KTM alarm is gonna run me $400 all in (taxes and mounting kit... although I don't THINK I need the mounting kit as the bike HAD a KTM alarm and the plate is still in there).

I can get a Gorilla alarm which is just an alarm for about $125 (... model 8007)

Or the Scorpio, which has RFID so there's no buttons to push, just be near the bike, for about $215 IF they make a KTM harness. I don't want to splice any / much ( )

So it comes down to is the KTM alarm worth double? How prone to failure is the imobilizer (in the KTM or any other alarm)?

To be quite honest, I think alarms are nothing but a PITA (and watch me lose my fob!) and I'd be half inclined to just buy it, show the receipt, and never instal it!

I have a Datatool S4 http://www.datatool.co.uk/consumer/prod ... /index.php on mine and it has been faultless for 3 years. Saved my bike getting stolen more times than I care to remember.

My KTM alarm worked ok for 3 years but then finnaly something happened to it and the imobilzer circuit started to cause a misfire which gave me about 3 months greif before my dyno guy finally worked out the problem!!!

I wouldnt buy another KTM alarm! (And they are only rebadged Datatool alarms anyway that they think they can charge more for cuz theyve printed KTM onit! )

I need an alarm fitted for Insurance purposes too, I had a bike stolen in the past so its good peace of mind as well.

On previous bikes I have had Meta alarms which have always been great and no problem. I have also had Datatool which were a total PITA and my current RC8 has an Acumen which is a PITA as well.

On my Superduke I had the KTM alarm which is made by Meta. I never had a problem with it at all. Every other alarm I have had has given false alarms at 3am in the rain.

So IMO yes the KTM alarm is worth every penny not to be woken at 3am!
