#10i missed my local one in Vic due to work commitments, didnt stop me buying a New SDR anyway, i rode my mates standard 05mdl and figured the new SDR would be better, i was right, except the seat, but im getting used to it.

I rode the SMC and the RC8R at Suttos in Penrith. I'd previously ridden the stock RC8, prior to buying my SDR, but this was another level or three up the scale.
I'm looking for a replacement for my aging CBR1100xx (152,000 ks) in the next 18months or thereabouts. I want something light; fast; full fairing protection; resonably priced; looks good; tugs the hearth strings a little too much; etc
The RC8R was $35k but the run out sales had them at $25k. That's about the same as the S1000R and a few grand over the Fireblade and ZX10R.

Thanks for the heads up and I was just about to book but I'll be back in from Singa's that day so it'll be over!
Make sure you try out the Duke R if you get the chance (obviously the RC8R first ) that bike is completely nuts!

#16I was at Nerang on Thursday for the big day and met Reb at the same time, He's a nice bloke.
We couldn't really give the bikes much stick as the route that they had set out for us was not a goer. There were road works being done so we ended up just riding in the the general area. You could still give it a little bit of go juice but it would have been nice to try the bikes on the twisties. I couldn't believe how fast the RC8R reved out though.
If they put that engine in the SD with more low down torque its going to be nuts.

#17Despite some wet roads I had a good time today.
First up was the 690 SMC, what a fun bike, would take a while to get used to. For wheelstands I like to loft it in first then short shift to 2nd and accelerate as I slowly let the front back down, when I tried this on the 690 it did not have the torque to carry on in 2nd. It would come up lightning fast, but you would need to carry the wheel much higher if you wanted any distance, something I was not comfortable with on a bike that isn't mine.
Next was a standard Superduke, things I noticed were I missed the extra 1000rpm, hit the limiter a few times, once while overtaking. Seat is much more comfortable and I could see myself riding one for hours on end. Engine much softer and smoother with stock mapping.
3rd up was the Duke 690, someone else took the R every time so I had to make do with the basic. Not a bike for me at all. Sure it was light and handled well, but the seat pushed me too far forward, I was more comfortable sitting on the pillion section. The little rises in the seat that are meant to keep you in place made it difficult for me to be where I wanted to be. It was gutless as all hell. Unless I was sitting right back on over the tail-light I could not get the front up nicely. Even on a wet slippery road I could not get any wheelspin, even when leant over.
Last bike I rode was the standard RC8. After everyone else, including the "experienced lead rider" telling me to watch the tyres and that the throttle is really jerky, I found it great. Those guys must be really ham-fisted or have a death grip when riding as I did not experience any throttle snatch at all. That engine is just great, and the chassis was not too track focussed which surprised me. The roads we took were pretty decent, fair few pot-holes but it was a local road to me so I knew it fairly well. Plenty of wind protection on the RC8, even up to 200 without tucking in. Brakes were good too. I want that engine in a SD with about 4 more teeth on the rear sprocket.
After all was said and done I was quite happy to jump back on my SDR, easily the best KTM to suit what I want. But I would like a SMC for rainy days and an RC8 for track work. That's not asking too much is it?

Went to Maroochy today as well and rode the RC8R, the SMC and the regular 690 Duke...
The two first rides were quick as the roads had dried up and the lead dude was enjoying himself.. The RC8R was fun and powerful, with great brakes but the riding position is very committed and reminded me why I quit sportsbikes.. The SMC as said, was fun! No weight and awesome to ride motard style. I did miss the extra grunt though as the little 690 isn't very powerful at the speeds we were doing.. The 690 Duke as Red said was boring and gutless.. It was also a slower run which made it a bit less exciting. But best of all, getting back on my SD with Akras and Marbox and 16/41 gearing was just bliss! The perfect bike for the road! Sure, for the track the RC8 engine would be fun but for the road, this thing is sex on wheels! I love my SD!
