#4While not a KTM 'concept', but some idealist's renderings; except for the single-sided swingarm, I like it. A lot.
Its not going to go that way ... and I still suspect - and hope I'm totally wrong - that the next SD is going to be more like a Diavel, and not a Tuono beater. If I wanted a "power cruiser", I'd go for a V-Max -lol.

#5I just can't see KTM bringing out a power cruiser or anything like one. It goes against their whole ethos of Ready To Race. They will be expecting big things from this bike and straying to far away from a hooligan, fun to ride and slight bad boy image just isn't a direction I can see them going. Bike mags would be going "like WTF!" The 1290 GS beating new Adventure is going to the closest KTM get to a big mile muncher.
Of course I could be wrong.

#7I have not one artistic bone in my body. When I see these concept designs, I just cant seem to tie them to a real world experiance. From what I can discern, which is minimal at best, I do not like this direction at all. They have taken the rear seat section to what I picture a stink bug getting ready to off a load and a praying mantis on the front in a stare down contest. The tank transition to seat is getting to a most vertilce transition for a perfect ball bustin braking bash.
Suttle has taken a back seat to transformer terror.
May as well be a decepticon. I like the stealth bomber lines of an original.
Nerds closer to the new SD mark in his questimation than I care to be comfortable with.
Hope klinckster is right. If KTM want to travel the Daivel directon, tgey should name it something else.

#8I honestly think KTM know they will never dominate a middle of the line street bike series that sells large volumes to Average Joe. Or certainly not in the near future anyway. Yes they have tough compition in the Streetfighter, V4 Tuono and the MV Brutale but this is the market they will tackle. They have yet to turn out anything other than a hooligan. Ok the new Duke 690 is a little weak in the styling but still meant to be great fun. SMR is brilliant fun and although I haven't ridden the new SMC yet it looks like a licence loser every time I see it in my local dealers. Even the SMT is meant to be a hoot. I just don't see them straying far from this. And certainly not now with the way the world economy is and bike sales being so low. They will stick to what they do best.

#10KTMs days are numbered?? They make world beater off road machines. Dominated the Dakar for years. Their road bikes get fantastic reviews everywhere but aren't for everyone. This is a good thing for us. If I wanted to ride a Honda Honet I wouldn't be in this forum. The US may be obsessed with CC but the rest of the world isn't and anyway you're about to get plenty of CCs. All 1290 of them

#12I think with fuel prices the economy and new riders coming into the market they would be better off sticking with smaller displacement engines.
Also try and keep the pricing lower just like Honda with their new 125 cheap as chips.
As for the new SD1200 if they tone it down like the new 690 its going to be a big stuff up for KTM.
But on the bright side our older model bikes will increase in price

#13I agree with Mr Agro
I do hope they dont fook it up , i was reading an article about the SD advertising campaign they shot in Japan all those years ago which forst attracted me to an SD , and they kind of captured the bike well in the advert.
the new 690 is a watered down version of the original , so if they follow that logic it will be shite IMHO and I'll buy a pikes peak instead of a new SD.
Here;s to hoping they dont lose there way

#15I think one of the reasons for the capacity hike is because of the imminent stricter emissions laws so the extra cc is there to create extra power to combat the strangling Euro 7 (?) rules.
Further off topic, the 848 Streetfighter is supposed to shit all over the 1098 model. Was supposed to have a hoon on one but the dealer sold the demo (damn).
