i usually place it with tape on the turn signals....wire enough to put the display in the center of the bar.

The GPS ones - starline are the way to go.

Very discreet - but not very cheap.

If your going down the GPS route, then consider an iPhone, Android or Nokia S^S phone, put it in one of and install GPS lap timing software.

Lap timers are very cheap now

Used android phone £40-£50 ebay
Or sometimes blagged from a mate for a beer

Bluetooth GPS reciever £15 ebay
Racechrono software free download

and you can happily mount the whole kit under your seat, and no one will know it's there !

Ive use Racechrone with a Samsung mobile and bluetooth GPS unit, works like a charm

phone in pocket, gps under seat/fairing, all lap times etc can be uploaded to laptop, and racechrono have most tracks already available to download (and if not they are very easy to create in 1 lap!)

And if you video your track time they also do a piece of software where you overlay the lap time/ speed etc over the top of the video!
