M8 instead of throwing your toys out of the cot, why not present the members of this forum with a list of your SD's problems since you have such an unhelpful dealer, there's tech knowledge here that boggles the mind and I've found people to be sympathetic, generous and very helpful in trying to fix others woeful issues. Dig deep for that patience, wade methodically through her problems and discuss what you've done and what you think needs to be done, because once you've found the cause and fixed it she'll purr like a tamed banshee and reward you with a universal savagery that has Sudokus Gsxr's committing roadside Seppuku. Good luck with whatever you decide.
6 times in 15000k thats fookin brilliant If i live long enuff on her to do 15000k it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Bye bye enjoy your japanese shite. May i suggest a jap crap with a fuel gauge, it'll hepl you especially.

Balance the carbs, chuck a power commander on it and there's the stalling and snatch issues gone.

Same old crap with the starter clutch (05-06 known drama). Just too bad his dealer was a dick and he didn't know KTM have a kit (tech bulletin) to fix that.

Lucky he didn't have the clutch slave cylinder and water pump demons too! He'd be very unhappy.
Fook me if he'd of had them probs as well can you imagine the post he would of left then

Gentlmen,

It seems that my comments have stirred things up a bit. It seems only right that I reply to your collective opinions.

AvataR: "Ive had the bike for a couple of weeks, and riding daily, and although it rattles like a twin at low revs, the "snatchiness' really just seems like the behaviour of any large displacement twin at low revs".

This rattling at low revs and "normal" snatchy behaviour of a large displacement twin pisses me orf. Admittedly this bike is my first twin after a long history of inline fours, but I just find the sensation of a motor feeling like it's shaking itself to death (because I have dared to drop below it's comfortable operating rev-range) disconcerting. I have found large capacity fours far more tractible and willing to pull from lower in the range.

Your point about checking the voltage regulator and all the other advice from others about how to fix the niggly faults that I am finding with my machine is the heart of the problem for me. I bought a bike that is supposed to work, period. I should not be the one to have to fix what appear to be recognised design faults that have appeared not only in my bike but others also. If I wanted to spend all my time in the shed modifying my bike in order that it should operate the way it was supposed to when it was built by the factory, I would have bought myself an old Ducati.

Smoky: At no point in my comments have I asked for sympathy. As far as I am concerned it has been a lesson learnt for me and although the Kato has been a huge amount of fun to ride fast the annoying (and dangerous) breakdowns I have suffered have destroyed my confidence in the bikes ability to not let me down again in the future. Some you win, some you learn from.
Therefore....trade-in time. At the end of the day I am not one to "love" a machine. I love my wife and kids and that is a constant exercise in compromise and patience. I buy a machine I expect it to behave like a machine, not a wife. I simply do not have time to fix faults in my machine that should not be there in the first place.
Your right, I could go to the GSXR/R1 sites to complain but that would be just preaching to the chior. Raising my comments here I hoped to present another point of view other that the Superduke is the BEST bike in the whole world. It has faults that we all are aware of. Most people on this site find that acceptable, I don't. I wasn't insulting your bike at all. Your bike may be the dog's bollocks for you. Mine isn't.

robertkehl: Thanks for the tip. But again, why should I be having to buy and fit additional products to my bike in order to fix an inherant fault that is common to bikes of this model? It doesn't make sense to me. Why has there been no model recall to fix what is a dangerous fault that could potentially see someone become road-pizza because of it's ability to perform in these conditions?

ductune: My bike stalls hot or cold if I am hard on the anchors and there is less than half a tank of fuel on board. Thanks for you comments about the flywheel weight. I've not ridden any of the new Ducatis.

SuperDuke69: Love ya work bigfella. Someone with the balls to say what he really thinks. Allow me to retort.....I've traded in and bought a Suzuki GSX1400. Man enough for ya? The KTM is a freakin toy in comparison. Sure, anyone can ride a bike fast that has the best of brakes and suspension and weighs fook-all, but getting a porky pig like the 14 through the twisty bits takes a bit more talent than I generally see in most sport bike riders.
I may have read it wrong, but it appears to me that trying to be different to everyone else is a high priority for you. I'm a little more comfortable in my own skin to be not all that concerned with such things.

robbo01: Ah...the KTM has a fuel gauge. I live in Western Australia. Once I get out of the city, fuel stations are sometimes more than 120km apart. If I lived in the UK I would have more ability to get fuel when I needed it....often.
As for my ignorance and feebleness, cheers mate. Me thinks he doth protest too much. Perhaps I have raised issues that also concern you and that you have been unwilling to really look at. Again, I have never asked for sympathy and if your bike is that great then a little critcism aint going to hurt one little bit. But, as you say, we are all aware of the problems that exist, so why is it Ok for them to not be adressed by the manufacturer?

Although I am dissapointed with the Kato, I have enjoyed it immensly when I have been out fanging. It goes like a scalded cat when I give it a flogging and the brakes have been paradigm-shifting for me. I have felt like the coolest guy on the planet when people look and then do a double take. But....at the end of the day, I ride bikes to ride them and not to pose about on or spend time in the shed fixing, polishing and fitting shiny bits to. It has been enlightening to read peoples comments about my earlier post. Debate is the domain of a good democracy and this little puppy is voting with his feet.

Cheers,
Paddy

thanks for taking the time
enjoy the new bike
Hope you enjoy the GSX14 (not a busa). You're right about the handling, I rode one 2 years ago and I just didn't have the talent (or balls!) to get it around corners fast - Good luck! Also hope you got one with black wheels, the original whites were...... not so fresh !
good coments Paddy, i agree that you should be enjoying the bike and not thinking is it going to breakdown again.
