letter from ktm regarding winter brake issues

today is the 11 th march and just received a letter from ktm regarding brake maintenance, telling me if the bike is ridden all year chances are salt ingress wil cause possible brake seizure, so dealers are offering a free brake inspection untill march end , wonder if any other uk riders have had the letter, mines an 2009 990 superduke model with the brembo big block brakes , doesthis concern all superdukes or is it a blanket letter to cover themselves , cos ive read on this forum problem bikes are 2007 ones ,i dont ride mine in winter anyway and i am fastidious with servicing,, but ive only had mine since nov last year , so its basically never been out yet, my hands are not mucky yet , if you know what i mean, but i think i will strip / clean/ copper grease etc sunday for something to do anyway ,

I received the same letter today. Its a bit bloody late though, winter is over now!

Yeah me to.....pretty obvious stuff though, and a bit late...just like the vouchers they sent me for an online offer which had ended before I recieved the letter!!quality or what!!

Yep, I just got mine on Thursday.

It's their attempt at covering their arses over any potential legal issues if you have a seise up problem. I've got the '07 model that seems to be the problem year but haven't had any problems except when I stripped them down a few weeks ago found that two of the Brembo pads had delaminated from their backings. These are the original OE pads - I posted some pictures of them as I was a bit shocked. However, not experienced any seizures or problems. Fitted new EBC pads but then bought a set of Brembo Monoblocks from one of our forum mates so when I fit them next week I will stop worrying. I'm one of the lucky ones I guess.

I took my calipers off today and wiped them with the letter. It made fook all difference, which is probably what the author intended.

The pictures made me laugh, no fooking way my calipers are gonna look like the "properly maintained" picture just by spraying with cold water, that looks Shade clean that does.

If anyone has brake lock up problems due to corrosion you must go and see a solicitor.
KTM are legally required to recall all affected models with such a serious life threatening safety problem. The fact that they think they can get away with not doing it with that letter is indefensible.
Look at the problems that Toyota had trying to duck out of safety recalls.

I'm wondering if they will contact US owners as well on this subject, I relize the problem exist's in the UK and KTM has treated it as a Euro problem , but these bikes over here come off the same line , don't they and as such one would think that the problen exist's here as well,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Got mine 2 days ago and pissed myself laughing as winter is almost over and its taken this long and a poxy letter in the post will sort out their problems.

ok, posted this thread and thanks for replies (laughs) i stripped my calipers down today as it was bugging me and they were shitty but far from dangerous etc , cleaned /lubed etc and back together , my dealer just did my 9000 service ok , that apparently included air filter and valve clearance check and brake strip and inspection, all listed on my receipt , however !!!!!!!!! when i stripped her down to mount the moto hooligan airbox kit and do the before mentioned brake strip and check, the fooking air filter looked like someone had a dump in it ,never been changed !!! BRAKES SHITTY AND THERES NO WAY THEY HAVE DONE ME VALVE CLEARANCE CHECK !!! typical dealer let down . i only had it done by a dealer as it is the first major service and that stamp would accompany the previous full service history, but whooo mamma never again i am quite used to working on bikes and from now on its me doing the work ,i am going back to the said dealer and throwing the air filter on the counter and having words next weekend, ps its in newcastle westgate road begins with m and ends in s

Where's my fackin' letter?! I've never had a fackin' letter, but my brakes have tried to kill me plenty. They had an especially good go this year when they siezed in the middle of the North Circular.
I think the least KTM can do now, given that the horse has not just bolted, but tried to burn the bloody stable down as well, is send me a letter telling me I might have a problem.
