Locking In

Where on the SD do you fast guys lock in your outside knee/leg when hanging off?

I'm having trouble relaxing on the bars as much as I would like, so I've been experimenting to try to lock in better on the outside and can't find a place where I feel good grip.

Any thoughts appreciated.

How tall are you? I'm 6' and don't really have a problem locking in. I do stand on my tippy-toe on the outside foot though, which raises my knee on the outside of the tank.
Ridden my Dad's blade with stompgrip, though, and that would definitely make it easier to stay locked in...

I've also found the SD far more negatively affected when not locking in, compared to the Blade - I attribute that to the bar width and angle that accentuates any rider-induced problems...

Shade, what I think is happening is this: I doubt the pressure your knee can exert on the crash bung is stabilising you in the corner.

But by reaching for it with your knee you are getting more of your weight forward and to the inside. This is putting more weight onto the front wheel - hence extra stability.

Taken to extreme you could push your foot forward towards the front wheel, supermoto stylee As you often see Rossi and Stoner doing these days.

Sports bikes with clip on handlebars automatically put a lot of rider weight over the front. However, the price is sore wrists and lower vision. The Superduke bars and riding position give good leverage and more opportunity to move our weight around on the bike. For track angles of lean you need to get as much weight as possible to the front wheel without holding too tightly to the handlebars - which is what you are doing.

Where you put weight on the bike will be all the more important Tues - the forecast is for heavy rain And I have sold my wets with the GSXR
oh fookin hell! The forecast has changed!! It was sposed to be sunny! Well, it might still change.....I'm fooked if it doesnt, I've been saving my tyre for that day....it's virtually a slick in the middle! I was gonna wear out the edges and then get a new one.

I take your point about the weight....for sure it's making a difference. Perhaps the bung just gives me confidence knowing I'm not sliding off the bike...I know exactly how far I'm hanging off the thing cos my knee tells me!
