Loose chain has make the bike not exciting

Took the bike to tri county as i have been having this knocking form the gearbox on low revs only since bought the bike. well apart form an oil change and a looser chain the bike is still doing it but at a much quieter levels. i guess can live with it till winter but the bike just felt a bit dull and a lot of vibration on the pegs compared to before as i remember. is this just me getting separation symptoms or is it normal. i mean the bike feels very different, i have lost most of the throttle twitch and i don't get a kick up the backside. i'm confused. am i alone in this?
