Mad Cow....

Hello there fellow riders....well, I knew I would be writing something here sooner or later, so.....



last saturday night, I was going back home from my aunt´s house in Iguala to my house in Taxco ( mexico by the way ) I was going about 70mph on a very cool and twisty road....riding my KTM Superduke 990, when in the middle of the road there was a freaking HUGE black cow just chilling and waiting for me.....I hit the brakes hard, but was only a feet feet away from it......BOOM.....I flew atop the cow, my bike did a front flip and landed on its tail, I landed on my head first and then my back and slid about 15 feet more....................

I was semi atgatt, I say semi because I wasn´t wearing full boots, I was wearing alpinestar´s snicker style boot, first gear armored pants and jacket and Zox full helmet, no gloves......

results : cow....dead from impact, 180 degrees looking the wrong way, spine broke and the body twisted, that was freaky looking.......ME : both ankles SEVERILY sprained and some minor fractures on the right one, my right knee susteined some heavy lacerations but after x-rays and all, all looks good, we´ll have to sit and wait 3 weeks from now to check back on it......road rash on back of the hands and a 5x5 road rash on my left buttock, damw it hurtz

I was wearing asterisk cell knee braces under the pants, and they SAVED my legs, had I not been wearing them, well, I wouldn´t be so cool writing about it....my helmet has a NASTY rash from the front of my face all around to the back....that would have been my face if not for the helmet.....

I feel lucky to get away with this and eventually walk away from it, took some pics, I´ll post them as soon as I can, be safe

PS : if anyone has frontal body parts for a 2008-up ktm superduke 990, full light housing and light and speedo, let me know, I´m all ears

Always ride with gear, but sometimes I leave the knee braces at home...glad you didn't.

There is a motorcycle sports writer / rider ( Ed Youngblood?) who did a story years ago about a cows next to a trail he was riding. He lost control of his bike and was looking for a soft place to land. The cow was the soft place, but the cow moved at the last moment, so he got the rock pile. Two years ago I was riding my dual sport in easteren Oregon. I saw a heard of antelope grazing. Cool! Then out of the shade comes a half dozen deer right in front of me. Dirt brakes are ment for the dirt, not pavement so they don't lock up in the dirt. Well I had max braking applied and the deer were getting closer. My thought was if I did tag one and lost control I was going to jump on one of the deer for a soft landing. I told this to my riding bud and he said I would have hoofs kicking me sooner then later.

I've known people here that have hit stuff like that and neither survived (1 x horse, 1 x cow).

Considering you hit a cow the bike looks like it got off lightly. Not sure if the same can be said about you but it could have been a lot worse. Get well soon dude.

You'll be back in the saddle in no tyme. Lesson learned and lived to tell, life's journey wrapped around one intoohot corner and another mammal. Two object and occupying same space at same tyme physics, shit. Your the one percent in the occupy movement, damn it anyway.
I looked up Taxco on Google maps, cause I hold a special place in my heart for Mexico, and it looks like everything a man could ask for. Minus a local KTM dealer with spare parts. Was it on hiway 95 that the calamity took place?
Fookin hit a cow on a bike at speed is a pretty good story for the grandkids.

Hell for stout front forks on this bike. They still looks straight from the photos. Does look like a bit of work to get the bike sorted, touched at all corners. Bikes can be replaced and fixed.. Gald your light is still on. I avoid night riding when I can. Way to many times I have passed deer at the side of the road ready to step across, into my path. What I hate to hear, and what I heard many times from my riding buds is, " Did you see that deer". What deer? Where? When?
