Seems to be the way in the mag industry. I used to work for a company designing and building skateparks and one of the skateboard mags were going to do a feature on skatepark builders. They wanted us to pay £0000s to appear in it and said all the other companies were doing it and we'd be left behind if we didnt pay.
Well the UK skatepark builders are a pretty small niche and so we all phoned eachother up and asked if we were all going on it and none of us had agreed to do it so we all teamed together and told the mag to piss off. They had to drop the feature and got nothing out of any of us.
I dare say the same thing happens to motorcycle manufactures and products where its not so close nick so if you dont advertise you get a bad review...

The Aprilia was always going to be the winner, otherwise there was nothing worth writing. It is the new bike with the most power and the most toys. Journalists like all those and they are only rating the bike on one days riding.It could have shit a valve on the test and they would still have rated it no 1. If there are any long term problems we will have to wait a year or so for the press to start admitting it. Remember how they raved about cross plane cranked R1's? It is only now coming out they have set up and ground clearance issues. 675 Daytonas and RSV4's? both had motors shit themselves on the launch. S1000rr's loads of fooked gearboxes started to get mentioned now.
The Streetfighter got more of a slating than the SDR remember how they raved about that for the last two years?
In 2 years time the truth will out about the Tuono, any engine problems will be known and the price will be sensible then is the time to buy one.
Did you really expect a bike launched 6 years ago and hardly improved since to beat every other super naked bike? Neevesy said the SDR seat is uncomfortable, no one other than Shade has ever tried to deny that. Throttle response is horrendous? For 5 years we have had threads on here bleating about exactly the same thing. He was riding a new SDR from KTM so it probably did have a shit trottle as did the RC8 demo I tried. The reason most SD's out there dont have horrendous throttle action now is that the owners have remedied the problem.

I have no experience of the Brutale but I wouldnt be tempted to swap to one. I certainly wouldnt want the Triumph and if you want to whinge about the article there is the place to start. Ride one and you will see it isnt, and never has been a patch on the Superduke, what is it doing in 2nd place? Ask MCN in fact ask them why Triumphs always do disproportionately well in these tests? could be a bit of mutual back scratching going on there.
Otherwise, I am happy with the SDR and couldnt give a shit what MCN think. If you want to read better reviews of Superdukes complain to KTM not MCN. An updated Superduke is long overdue.

#13Good i'm kinda glad we've come last,i rather revel in being classed as the under dog It's the rider that ultimately make's the difference,i've no doubt the odd V4 Tuono will get past me but i also know there will be a lot more that wont The same applise to all the other make's on the test so i aint that bothered or worried what MCN write's i'd still buy a new SDR over the rest

#15You do have to laugh at the speed triple coming in at second place. I don't take any notice of these comparisons any more as I owned a speedy in 08 and going off all the reviews back then it was the best thing since sliced bread so I bought one and it was the worst bike I have ever owned. The SD craps on it!

I find nothing in that to disagree with, roll on the new SD with a full fat RC8R motor. Failing that and assuming I'm not too big to fit then I will probably end up with one of those new Tuono things in a couple of years time when the rich chap who bought it new has spunked a few grand on upgrades, got bored and is selling it for less than half the price he paid.
In the mean time my old SD is still a grin factory whatever MCN say as the coming child free weekend should demonstrate

#20MCN - are as we seem to agree industrial arse lickers - they slated my R1200gs when the new Multistrada came out - how the f--k can you even try to compare a 150 bhp bike against a 100 bhp air cooled flat twin - wa--kers - test rode the multi , nice but not a good as the R1200 as passengers are a second thought maybe a one trick pony !! - 2008 SDR owner ( as well as the BM)

#25I bought a new Speed Triple in 2006, modded it heavily, and just sold it last December after four and a half years. I never keep bikes that long, but the S3 was that much fun. I must say, however, that the SD is a very worthwhile replacement, and I'm enjoying the piss out of it.

#30I had 08 speed triple and I just couldn't get that thing to handle. I liked the engine but it jump out of gear twice going through corners in the 3 months that I owned it and made me crap myself the dash leaked and yes I know some SD"s have had the same problem but the Triumph dude just shrugged his shoulder's when I asked for it to be fixed. It had paint coming off the side panels and that was the first day I washed it LOL!! The front end would dive really bad on breaking and it didn't make much difference adjusting the shocks. It had a really bad High speed vibe like it was going to explode not the engine but one of the wheels? it used to run hot most of the time and the break and clutch levers just felt cheep it had other problems but I just cant remember of hand what they were but maybe my bike was a Friday special who knows but I wont buy another Triumph.
