Measurements/Specs of WP Steering Damper?

I have a 2008 that I am looking to add the undermounted damper to. I just bought the mounting kit that contains everything BUT the damper, because I feel like there has to be a more inexpensive option available than the WP OEM Powerparts piece.

Can someone WITH that damper provide the specs for it? Stroke length, body length, body diameter, etc?

I have the WP damper. It's attached to my bike so I'm not sure how I can accurately measure it. I will tell you that there is little tolerance to play with. The damper rod comes very close to the radiator at full lock. In fact, I think you lose some turning radius when you install the damper. (I didn't install mine myself, but I think that's the case. It seems like to bike has less lock to lock than it did without the damper).

Based upon my experience, my advise would be to learn from my mistake and get a Scotts damper.

The LSL steering damper is a great bit of German kit that is a fraction of the price of a White Power/KTM unit. It's available for '06 and post '07 models. It's good - check it out.

Crotch - I installed the stock unit on my buddy's Standard SD. It came with it when he bought it. I remember it slightly causing a full lock stop, but I readjusted the mount. Thanks for the tip.

here's a curly one, i ordered a WP steering damper and fitting kit thinking i could just bolt it on under the bottom yoke, mainly because i have the nichols top clamp. However, my 05 doesn't have the threaded hole between the lock stop nor is there room to drill and tap one, so, how do i mount my damper on top? i can use the centre mount as i have the 05 tank but can anyone tell me how the heim joint mounts onto the top triple clamp?

to answer how long the overall dimensions for the wp dampeners... it is 265mm

although i reckon 260 would be better as clearance at full lock (from the radiator) is woeful and has dented a couple of fins when fitting.
