Mechanical screw ups

Hey guys, the topic "it could only happen to the US and A made me think of looking for stuff on the internet and I found this:

My latest was to start my 450SMR where I put a new K&N cone air filter instead of the air box, and started it up while i forgot to remove the plastic bag on the K&N!! The thing just got really small in size!!D:D

One of my best, was about 15 years ago, I was working on a 56 Desoto. It was a 4 door so we were just taking it apart. The car has not been started since 1961 per the previous owner. Well the original carb on that desoto is normally opened and held chut with the a spring. well, the spring was not on! I rigged a gas can on the roof and rigged electrical and got it started. Went to 50000000000 RPM in 2 seconds. There was no switch to shut it off, and the work light cord got caught in the fan, everything started flying , i was running away from it, I came back to pull the gas line off to try to kill it. So, it finally died...... I looked over on the other side of the and the work light was sitting on top of the hood of a 65 caddy we just painted......:D

mmmm first week i had my BMW it wouldnt start so i called BMW service they sent a nice guy out to my house, clicked it back into neutral and it started first time....Doh!!!

was sitting on the brand new 07 SD about 2 weeks from new, turned on the key on after pushing the alarm button, Had no dash readings at all, no tach

movement or any type of lights, after breaking into a sweat I found that i had somehow inadvertently pushed the kill switch,

it did not come to mind cos I never use one, joe smelled of butt afterwards.

Any story that involves the throttle being stuck wide open is bound to be funny (in hindsight) Wrebitup - PMSL at the yz250 story. Freddy - I can almost picture the scene!

I once had to call out the breakdown service for a friend's Honda Bros 400. Who would've though that Honda's turn over with the Killswitch off!?

Trying to kick and bump start my Husky supermoto on it's first track outing... getting red and sweaty until someone asks if I've turned the fuel on

1. Cadwell a few years ago, it was a bit on the wrong side of damp in the morning. After a Karaoke session until nearly 4am the night before with a LOT of beers i was trying to fit wets to the 750K1... could i bollox get the wheel to fit. Mostly because i was trying to put the rear sprocket into the brake caliper.

2. Pembrey with mate who was racing his Mille, i was spanner man. Spannerman decides to make BBQ, the throw away BBQ wouldn't bloody light, so i thinks, OK, i'll use a bit of petrol from the can. *WHOOMPH* the can goes on fire, i throw it in the air and it lands under the motorhome. !!!! My hair was fried, my eyebrws and lashes no longer existed, and the fooking jerry can was on fire under a £30,000 motorhome...

Damn how we laughed !!!!!! (about 2 hours later)

overthetop.ca That is one of the funniest / scariest stories I have ever heard. I must admit, I was cracking up laughing, but glad you were okay. I would call that BOUGHT and PAID FOR experience

one time i was changing clutch on cbr600. to save myself dropping down oil i took 2 old car tyres, stack them and lay the bike on them, giving me a good access to the clutch without draining oil. everything went well, till one of the last nuts. i dropped it in the engine. pissed off, i drained the oil, took off the oil pan, took out the nut, put everything back... bike starts, but does not move when you put it in gear, unless you keep RPM very high. it feels like the plates are not catching.... put the bike down, figured i'll take the plates back out and have a closer look. i drop the same nut into the engine! quite pissed off, drain the oil again, take off the oil pan, take out the nut, put everything together, plates look fine, check the manual again, everything is in order... put the oil back in - and i crack the oil pan overtightening the drain bolt. FOOOOK!!!! i drain the oil again, it was Sunday, i ordered new oil pan and i have to leave everything till Mon. At the time i had no garage, so i was at my friends place, some 40km from home... i have to call my backthen girlfriend to come and take me home... Monady she has to drive me back out there.... put new oil pan on, put the oil back in, bike still will not move...WTF??? i have another, good look at the manual....
i've been lookin at the wrong diagram!!!! manual covers cbr600 and 1000 (87 to 91 i think?), and clutch for 1000 goes in opposite way then in 600! so my clutch is in backwards...
15 min later i'm riding her home, bike runs like it should.
30 min easy job turned into few hours of hell... + extra parts...
