I just sold my fully-kitted 2007 Superduke and bought a fully kitted 2008 SDR... and...
...For two bikes that share so 99% of thier parts they are more different than you'd expect (especially after 2008).
The standard SD is a better all-rounder, and a bit more forgiving to ride, especially in the more compliant and flexible suspension set-up, ...and of course it has a pillion seat.
Meanwhile the SDR has a rock hard seat and very stiff suspension, plus the 2008+ bikes have more power (and some nice bling), all of which make it quite an uncompromising bike, and def NOT an "all-rounder" for the average bike rider...
...but bollocks to that. I use mine as an all-rounder anyway. Buy the SDR.
If you do get an SDR I'd recommend you get a new seat, or get the standard one recovered & re-padded. It's also worth spending a few $$$ on getting the suspension properly set-up. These things (plus aftermarket cans and remap) transform the bike, and take it from "great" to "awesome".
A standard SD is fine as it is, although aftermarket cans and remap will also make it much nicer to ride - and it won't set fire to your girlfriend's jeans.
As said on here already - people chose akras cos they work in partnership with KTM (they also make KTM's carbon parts) so KTM can provide ECU maps specifically for them - plus they are quality kit (but not cheap).
Other makes work too, and can be just as good, and often work with the Akra maps.
