Monster Slapper

Up the road on the way to the good bits is a straight that must be best part of a mile long and as we all know straights are boring on a superduke so I stood up on the pegs and rode away up this road on the back wheel,I was on the back wheel for long time but only mention the length of the wheelie because I think it may be something to do with the outcome as when I put it down I had the mother of all lock 2 lock tankslappers first it went lock 2 lock for what seemed like forever then almost righted itself before somehow starting again for another half dozen slaps before finally coming back ,It was massive,I had given up on it and had lost a hand off a grip and was ready to faceplant ! the noise,the banging,the violence!! fooking heck

Anyhow if there are any tankslapper veterans or knowledgeable people out there I have a few questions in no perticular order.

Does the likelyhood of a tankslapper increase when you land a wheelie stood up ?
Does the likelyhood of a tankslapper increase when the front wheel isnt rotating anymore ?
Why has it never happened before ?
Do I really need to be having moments like this ?
Why dont the bloody gopro have a light on back to say its recording ?
Will it happen again

Is yours an R model or standard, maybe if you haven't got the steering Damper you should consider one if you're gonna be doing massive stand up wheelies!

The front wheel probably stopped rotating and when it touched down was off a bit, which may have induced the tank slapper.

I will bear that in mind ....moving weight to the pegs aways did it for me

To be honest this was so quick and sooooooo violent I was a complete passenger (the memory is very serreal......the flying bit especially ...slow motion....although I do not want a another go TA )

We must have similar backgrounds...I had 92 Blade .....BT56s made a lot of difference...worset I ever had was NSR250 Gull Arm (HRC deristricrted) ...handled great but loved to slap...full lock to lock ...in the end just use to ignore it .....as it never got any worse

I have never owned 98 R1...have ridden friends....trying to diagnose this very thing for him..........it seemed to be a standard feature on 98 and later R1 ....... for no apparant reason

I have ridden KR1 but not KR1S...lovelly motor (when it keeps all its bits in the same place) a real rasp to it ands so sharp even in standard trim

Being light on the grips when landing a wheelie reduces the chances on tankslappers as well.
